RGH Falcon will load Xell

I have a flacon board and I have created the ecc after flashing it Xell never loads. Created using J-Runner and Multibuilder, same thing. There is one bad block at 165 so it should not be an issue for Xell.

Checked all the soldering and everything is ok. I can flash the orig (13599) nand and place the CR in program mode and it boots with no issues. I have tried also using the Opus timing files with no luck.

Will post some pics of the soldering when I get home from work.

:frown:

Any advice would be great.

When I get home from work I will, but everything is good in J-Runner. ECC builds exactly the way I would expect it to, and yes it is set to phat and norm on the CR.

Pics should be mandatory now - absolutely no point in trying to help without seeing what you've already done.
I think it should be a rule that if you're going to ask why your rgh/jtag isnt working you MUST post pictures of your wiring and soldering.

Its getting tedious for the guys who are in the know to help those who are not. Especially since we have to beg and fight with users to post pictures so we are not all wasting our time.

Seems one out of 3 people you ask for photos you get
I'm positive i'm a elite solderer and I know that's not my problem
Or something along the lines of that. Only to see pictures after we demand/beg and see the solder is the issue it looks like hell and they have a short or something.

As I said in my orig post I would post some pics when I get home from work. But just assume for now that the soldering is perfect, does anyone have any thoughts as to what the issue may be.

Oh yeah the CR blinks green every 5 seconds and the fans pulse as I expect them to but no Xell. I have left it for an hour and it did not glitch but the green light keeps blinking and the fans keep pulsing.

I had this issue Black screen no Xell but green light was blinking,

Problem was the green wire had a tiny little bridge, resolderer it and it worked fine, maybe that is your problem?

Thanks for your replies but I did try the blue across the top and I used a 10x magnifier to look at the green and all other points and there is no bridge. This is the first falcon I could not get to glitch.

You'll need a pretty big magnifying glass to see electrons moving, get the multimeter onto the PLL_BYPSS and check for continuity on surrounding capacitors and resistors, namely the ones closer to the CPU, you should have no continuity to any of those.

Oh and as Blakey asked for, JRunner log.

I forgot the J-Runner log. I will up it tonight. Also I already checked the surrounding area for continuity and nothing as I expected. There is continuity from the coolrunner to the alt PLL_BYPASS with the green wire soldered to the normal PLL_BYPASS.

From past experience if you bridge solder in that area it usually ends with a 0022 red ring.

Is the debug light flashing every 5 secs?

To be honest, I spotted the following:

1. STBY_CLK soldering looks a little dodgy. Desolder, trim the wire back to about 1mm showing. Flux the point and resolder. If you need to (and are able to solder well enough), you can solder it to the side of the adjacent resistor instead of the point. I've sometimes laid the wire flat so the tip is soldered to the resistor and the length is soldered to the pad.

2. Try running CPU_PLL_BYPASS wire along the top of the x-clamps rather than under them. I have seen issues with them running inside like that. Not all the time, but enough when I have a problem to move it.

Yes it flashes every 5 sec. I test the continuity from the backside of the resistor at STBY_CLK and it was good and it was not bridged to anything else. The camera is not the best so it may look that way but the soldering is good. I think I will try the alt STBY_CLK under the board though. The brown in the pic is the flux residue.

I am also going to try thr CR on another RGH I have, to rule out a faulty CR.

Try the CPU_PLL_BYPASS wire in another position. Also make sure CPU_RST isn't near anything which might cause interference.

Seeing as you have a Falcon, if everything else is ok then with the original stock NAND written back (first 50 blocks are all that's needed to be replaced) and the CR set to NOR, the console should boot.

Yes when I write back the original nand it boots without issue. I have even tried shielded wire and still the same thing. The green light flashes every 5 sec and Xell will not load. I'm stumped. At least it is not red ringing when I write the stock nand back to it.
