Got an xbox in just to have the drive fixed. (he says it's not worked since someone else had done it and had him off basically)

It's a Falcon Motherboard and has a Hitachi79 and on Dash 2.0.12625.0

So i am guessing i am going to have to RGH it to get the key and replace it with either the BenQ/Lite-on (depending what it wants)

Just looking for a 2nd opinion, Thanks

You really shouldn't replace it with anything other than a Hitachi v79. RGH to check the details, but that's all you can do.
I was thinking maybe the Hitachi drive does not belong in the Falcon?

The MFR date on the Xbox is 2008 / 07 / 17
And the Hitachi is 2007 (maybe that means nothing?)

Will do the RGH to make sure though,
Thanks

Just seemed a little strange, and that no games work in the drive (nor dvd's). So maybe it just is a dead laser?

Will try a quick pot tweak and take it from there.

Thanks

it could be any problem but yeah a bad laser isnt a bad guess.

EDIT: but to make sure, do as Martin suggested and get the cpu-key and see what your KV says about it :)

Tried tweaking it to around 5K and still no life (no dvd or game) so got another Hitachi drive i had in a working Xbox flashed it over and it's working just fine now no struggle.

Going to update the Xbox to latest dash and flash to latest, and hopefully it was just a drive problem.
(i am assuming that when i have done the update i will know whether or not it belongs there as XGD3 will be a problem)

Thanks again

Most drives have a pot value of 4 - 5kOhm as stock, when pot tweaking u usually find u need to reduce resistance to 3 - 4kOhm to get a response, anything lower than 3kOhm is definately giving up the ghost. Glad u got it sorted.

Yea i think the drive that was inside it has well had it's day.
The other drive i took out of a working Xbox installed 2 games just fine in the customers box.

Will be putting a new drive in it anyway.

Thanks for the help guys, all sorted
