Fan speeds up, can't get key in Xell!

Hey everyone, I want to start off by thanking everyone who supports the homebrew community and gives so much of their time to help others. I lurk here often, but do not post. I have a question regarding my Jasper 512mb I just flashed the ECC onto.

Here's my specs;
Updated Nand-X from 2.0 to 3.0 via new USB update cable.

Flashed Coolrunner with the Jasper XSPF through Nandpro 3.0.

Read Nand 2 times @ 64mb, and once @ 512mb.

Checked CB, it's glitchable. 6750.

I manually soldered everything, and built an ECC through Multibuilder 0.4. The glitch chip is powered on, and does flicker the green LED when I power on the Xbox in Xell Reloaded.

Everything is going well to this point. However, when I turn on the Xbox, Xell Reloaded boots up like it should, but the Xbox is going into protection mode (I believe that's what it is). The fan continues to speed up every second or two, to the point where the fan is going full blast and the xbox just shuts itself off.

Its obviously not hot enough to overheat, as it's only on for about 10 seconds. Unfortunately, this timing window I have does not allow Xell to display my key before it shuts off. I'm not sure if the Xell program is letting it do this, or if it's soldering. The solder looks clean.

I've also tried using my Talismoon fan, but also ramps up to insane speed before shutting down. I also tried running it without the fan plugged in at all, which lets the xbox turn on without video, and then shuts off almost immediately (assuming more xbox protection.)

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, a remedy or a solution to what I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks to you all!

Is this your first time takeing this mobo out of the cage. Reason I ask is perhaps now that you have taken the pressure off the heat sink by unscrewing them you may not be getting a good contact. Chances are that the thermal paste is worn out to the point that its now not transfering heat properly to the heat sinks which is causeing it to overheat.

That's a good point. I have a modded ROL, so I didn't notice that error codes were coming up. I swapped it out for an OEM, and I have the 1st and 3rd quadrant showing red lights, the left side. That's an overheating code. I will put the xbox back in its cage and screw it in and see what happens.

Id say that you need to at the veryleast change your thermal paste. Clean off the old stuff and replace it with Artic 5.
Now that you broke the contact on the old stuff chances are it will never bond properly again.
Besides that MS does a sh*tty job at putting thermal paste on to begin with!

I just put the cage back on, same thing, if I push down on it, it goes to 3 red rings automatically, probably a short underneath from the solder points of the Coolrunner. I do have some Arctic 5, so I'll give that a shot.

Here are the pics. The 3.3V wire looks a little ugly, but I had trouble sending solder up enough to level with the surface of the mobo. I actually soldered a wire from a capacitor (I snipped the cap itself off, just to use the leg) from the bottom up through the top so the 3.3V wire (red) had something to attach to.

Wow those are some great pics! Perfectly clear.

Your Soldering looks a little wild but not the worst I've seen. Go ahead and change the thermal paste out. The fans speeding up isnt typical for an error in installation of the coolrunner. It useually points to bad contact between the heatsinks and the chips. I.E. to much thermal paste or not enough.
Have you tried it again since removeing it from the cage?

The error code is 0012. I changed out the thermal paste but still got the same problem. This was out of the cage, not screwed in. My solder job there was much cleaner before but I've been taking it off and put it back on a couple of times. The qsb was making it short so I couldn't get a NAND read so everything is kind of messy now. The Xbox was barely used and I know for a fact that it has nothing to do with overheating. Maybe the rgh solder points are causing some sort of faulty panic for the Xbox?

Now that you brought this all back up! OP did you ever resolve this issue. If so please post back with your solution so that future search button users will find an answer in this thread. Thank you
