Features for the new X3 BIOS

Hey team xecuter, I was just curious if you are thinking of adding smb support for the BIOS of the chip. So that when you leave apps like XBMC there is still support to access files on a network. Like my backed up games for example, and play them over my network instead of off the HDD. :D

If this would even be possible

Wouldn't this go under the forum "Feature REQUEST?"

Well... I'd love this as well... However.... how does it make sense?...

You don't play your games FROM the bios... you play them from a Dashboard. even if the Bios supported networks... I don't think whatever dashboard you use, would?

I don't believe the bios's capability to run through network, would enable my UnleashX Able to also, Unless... it tricks the dashboard into thinking it's a partition? ;)

SMB is a rather complicated protocol which translates into a lot of code to implement properly. This means that there is less room for additional features. In addition smb support in the bios would offer little to no advantages. I'm not fully up on the architecture of the xbox but I am under the impression it does not allow for traditional threading like you would see in linux or windows. This means the bios hands over control to the application and then only specific software interrupts called by the application are executed by the bios. So if your application does not call say the software interrupt to handle updating the smb share status etc... then the mount would become unstable and not be usable.

In any event for what use would you have of smb shares in config live that is not already provided by the built in ftp server?

I have a recommendation for a BIOS feature that could work for both the X2 and X3 Bios. Would it be possible to have the BIOS forward requests from one IP to another. So that way you could have the BIOS take calls to the Xbox Live servers and forward them to an IP of your choice. I appologize if I put this in the wrong place.

Re: Wave 7 games

From what i read Hasbro family game night 3 is a wave 7 the first one and has the new dashboard update on the disk(image) if so it will force the new dashboard update i would not play this game on a modded box. as i would almost be sure it would also run the ap2.5 check since the update is on the disk. not worth it for a kiddie game.

Re: Wave 7 games

Awesome, Thanx for the heads up. I already have the dashboard update, but i think i have the banning beat for the time being, as i am running an external dvd drive, wich i have unplugged, so the system is still reading from the internal drive. i have not started my system with the hacked drive since the night before the dash update.

Thanx for all your help guys!!
