Hi all.

i've just received my conceptronic SATA PCI Card with VIA 6421A chipset. i ordered this because it'd have 6421L which is supposively the best around, but this chipset will do them fine i hope.

to the point:
i've just downloaded Xtreme Boot Maker 0.5.3 RC1 because i want to flash with Xtreme 5.2a... From what i've seen in the tut by textbook, this Xtreme Boot Maker doesnt seem that hard to do.
but instead of seeing this quite easy to understand 0.3.5 i'm seeing this 0.5.3 :

and this

enfin, whenever i select my .rar file with my xtreme52a.bin , its saying import failed.. whatever i do it's not working.. maybe its because of windows vista, but i'm not sure. any help on this?? and howcome the XTREME FIRMWARE bit is greyed out in the first pic ?? i'm quite confused because what the programmers did with this new version :?

and secondly, does this Xtreme Boot Maker 0.5.3. have the updated X360SAM.exe? so i don't have to worry about partial reads of the firmware, and this drive version string problem?

i was wanting to flash my MS-28 today, but this other appearance of Xtreme Boot Maker is not nice and takes time because i'm not understand this programs everytime as good as i'd like to do, but ya my native language is dutch.

so maybe someone can make me a little step by step what to do next.. i dont ask for all this tech talk, i'm comfort with tech so i don't need in-depth with pixzors and stuff :p

mh i still have one question remaining a little offtopic simple yes or no would do
i have this hitachi 0078FK, can i use Xtreme Boot Maker to spoof the firmware , so i can use this spoofed firmware to flash a MS-28 with?? this is basically what spoofing is ment for right? so you can spoof firmware so your 360 will work with another DVD-drive?

and other little question ^_^
omg u think im noob or what. i'm just making sure i want dont to brick this drive and im come here for PRO users :D

in this tut:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/464269
he uses xtreme boot maker 0.3.6 to flash MS-28 with xtreme5.2a ... but he doesnt update X360SAM ??? is he a fool or what???

ok cheers mates, mod on and thanks alot for the help.

First, I'd recommend you don't use Windows Vista to flash the Hitachi. Borrow an XP box, use a friends, make yours dual boot to XP, whatever you have to do. Bad things seem to happen when flashing with Vista.

I would say simply use XBM 0.3.6 and you'll be able to follow Textbook's tutorial to the letter and everything will work fine. There isn't a tutorial for the new version yet.

I would absolutely follow what bigd23 has said. While it has worked in Vista I do not recommend it.

thank you for this info. i've just tried this 0.3.6 and it doesnt want to read my i/o and id, while 0.5.3 does..

vista however works great for flashing 0078FK . so far done 4 .. but i'll just install this XP on my backup drive just to be sure.. surely XP works with alot more stuff.

and this 0.5.3 version doesn't let you open .bin files.. it asks for .rar files.. note "no archive selected" in the picture..

0.3.6 is probably not detecting the I/O because you're in Vista, from what I read they don't get along too well. ;)

No, you NEVER cross-flash firmware meant for Hitachi to Samsung or vice versa. Spoofing simply means that your drive will report to the 360 as being something else. If your 360 came with a Samsung ms28 it will only work with an ms28, but you could buy a Hitachi and have it report as being a ms28. That's it.

You mean, use Xtreme Boot Maker to spoof your samsung firmware to report as a v78 hitachi? If so, yes, that is the purpose of the function.

Also, as for your question above, XBM v0.5.3 includes samtool. It no longer uses x360sam. Samtool will check your version strings and your key, make sure they both report as valid and if your hacked firmware version doesnt match your original, it will prompt you to copy it over.

Xtreme Boot Maker 3.6 is used in the tutorial, it works with XP but does not work with Vista.

I haven't used 5.3 yet to flash a drive, just some short tests. It is compatible with Vista. When loading the rar, make sure you are loading the one downloaded from Xbins. It worked for me when I did a little bit of testing. Also, realize that the commands have changed. It is no longer samread and samhack but xread and xflash.

About the firmware spoofing, not sure yet, haven't looked into it yet.

thanks alot.. the .rar archive loaded fine from xbins >_> i feel stupid.... didnt seem i had to install XP after all which i'm on now

i'm not in need of any more assistance (for now), but i'm appreciate you guys' help alot :D:D

i'm read this .nfo files alot.. i've just prepared my MP3 player flashdrive :p

this 10 sec trick then i'm good to go :D happy flashing said XBM to me :)

btw, this technique used by this Xtreme Boot Maker is very easy if you look at it, compared to previous flash methods i think.

How to Use:
-----------

1. Load your floppy disk or connect your USB Flash Drive. (optional)
2. Run Xtreme Boot Maker.
3. Detect your sata chipset, if required.
4. Open your Xtreme Firmware's .rar file.
5. Select all the options you like.
6. Click "Create Disk".
7. Boot from your prepared drive or your NTFS cd.
8. Type "xRead xxxxxxx xxxxx" to backup your 360's original firmware.
9. Type "xFlash xxxxxxx xxxxx" to flash the Xtreme firmware.
(Don't include the quotes, and replace x with your 360's Serial Number.)

basically thats it. easy as pie.. can be done in one time going into DOS if im correct

Yes, very simple - always has been. ;)

You will need to reboot back into dos once you read your firmware though.
