FIFA 14's Ultimate Team mode will introduce a new player Chemistry Style system, which allows you to tailor the performance of individuals within your squad. This will create more opportunities for experimentation even towards the endgame, EA Sports FUT chief Marcel Kuhn has promised, and will take the element of repetition out of encounters with the same, fan-favourite teams. "Create your own unique squad to play your style of football," reads a blurb (via CVG). "Ultimate customization is possible with all-new Chemistry Styles that make every player and every team unique. Like real-world football, chemistry influences a team's performance so building ideal chemistry within a squad enables a team to perform at its best. Each Chemistry Style has a unique effect on the way a player performs by enhancing different player attributes."

As reported by Eurogamer, examples of this might include defender styles that boost strength and headers, midfield styles that focus on passing, and forward styles that improve pace and shooting. Expect a wide variety of styles for every position - an attacker can be kitted out with defensive buffs, for instance.
"After crafting squads, fans will be able to test their talents in the popular Seasons mode - now expanded to 10 divisions - or in online single games and tournaments," the blurb continues. "Plus, new streamlined search filters will help target coveted players in the Transfer Market as fans re-shape their teams based on the real-world performances of their favorite players."
You'll need to spend a consumable to change a player's chemistry style - they're sold as part of FIFA Ultimate Team packs or via the transfer market, and you can expect common and rare types.

"You never meet a team that feels the same if you meet it twice," Kuhn told Eurogamer. "Right now a common team is a Brazilian silver squad, which you meet a lot of times in FUT. This year you play the same team over and over and they play the same way.
"Next year, you will beat the same team with the same 11 players, but they might feel very different in the backend of the gameplay because of different gamers applying different chemistry styles to them.
"There is no endgame in FUT," he added. "You might be able to build the squad you really wanted. But in the meantime we always post new content based on the real world. There will be special versions of specific players, for example, if they are in Team of the Week.
"So, even though you think you've finally assembled a squad that is your endgame, there will be new content that has built up in the background that you can get into. Also, with the chemistry styles, it'll lead to trial situations, where you're like, I wonder what this guy would play like if I attach this chemistry style to him? It's going to enhance the experimentation factor."
Here's a video on all this, care of CVG, and here's a FIFA 14 hands-on from us, detailing the five ways you'll need to rethink last year's tactics. Buying it? Can I interest you in one of several retailer-specific special editions? There are bonus Ultimate Team content packs to be had.
