first install, need help

Hi, i just did my 1st install of the x3 on my 1.6 xbox with the 1.6 rebuild pcb. After the install, my xbox boot as normal( no flash screen or nothing), i dont have any light on the external x3 panel, i only see 1 blue light on the chip itself. All the dip switches are on the left position on the external panel.

I really need some help!

Not sure which blue light you have but one is 5V other is 3.3V

have you connected the supplied alternate 5V cable ?

redo solder joints on 9 & 15 (3.3V)

sounds like you need to take another look at your soldering here are the pin outs http://www.teamxecuter.com/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19148 i would look at pin 15 and pin 9 also pin 6.

I have exactly the same problem. I checked all solder joints and they are perfect. I cant get that damn light on the external panel or chip to work!

i didnt use a wire but my ohm meter tells me that pins 9 and 15 are already connected. i have redone some solder joints but i still have the same problem : no 3.3v light, no front panel, chip dont work, xbox boot as normal......

If you have checked all soldering and certain it is good then...
Remove the connector for the front panel dip switches.

Do this at the X3 chip not on the external switch panel.

Reasoning is see if it boots without dip switches connected....if so check cables to switches are not trapped under game ports and shorted to metal casing.
There has also been a case of bent pins at the dip switch panel too...

It dont work, can the chip work with 5v only? because my 5v is working but the xbox is not booting from the chip, maybe i have a bad D0 connection?

read the sig... you NEED that 3.3v light on. the chip cannot power up correctly if it doesn't get the right voltage. Your problem is pin 9 and 15 either keep resoldering them or connect them with a wire and keep resoldering

No ...chip needs both.
It has to be soldering on the LPC bus then ...3.3V power should be supplied to pin 15 redo the soldering on 15 & 9..

Clean the solder out with a solder pump ...flux and redo.

Pin 15 has the 3.3V rail on the opposite side of the board from the solder side...so solder must run right through the hole, make this one again

well i have a little different problem. both of my lights work. 5v and the 3.3v but i cant get the ms dash to boot. just put in a x3 chip havent flashed yet because i want to figure this out first. any suggestions??

did you remember to put the power switch adapter board in your xbox? or foget to connect the cable to your chip? if you have a version 6 you might have not removed pin 6 from the pinheader

no all the wires are connected including the eject switches. as far as the 1.6 goes i think i may be retarted because the top of my motherboard looks like a 1.6 but the bottom looks like a 1.0-1.5 is this a 1.6b?? i have never seen a 1.6b could this be one of those mystical machines??

Hi, i still have no 3.3v light, i have redone all the solder joints, i put the motherboard back in the xbox, dont put any screw, no dvd and hdd, and just power it up to look at the lights, i still only have the 5v led. Im sure that pin 15 and 9 are right.

I really dont know what to do next?

anyone had problems with the 1.6 and x3?

Ok ..back to an earlier post..

first remove the front panel switches from the X3 (at the X3 side)..

check x3 leds

If no 3.3v then I'm gonna keep saying it ....solder..
The 3.3 comes off a track on the component side of pin 15...it's quite tricky to get solder thru the hole..
Sorry but it has to be the connection.

If you have a voltmeter then would be really useful to measure pin 15 with no x3 attached.. if no volts on 15 ..then how about on the left hand side of capacitor C7D1 (little light brown rectangle directly above pin 15).

if 3.3v present here then you have an open cct between this point an pin 15..repair it.

If no 3.3 look for solder splashes /bridges around this area (on both sides of the board...also check the same around pin 9.

Sorry but it really is down to solder connections ...these are supplied voltage rails that have nothing to do with the x3 being there..if they r not on these pins then the x3 will not work.

ok, i tested it with a volt meter and i have 3.3v on pin 15, then i tested the chip without the front panel and i still only get the 5v light.

What kind of problem can cause this? my 5v and 3.3v are working so.....
Can i have a bad chip?
