First jtag help needed

I got my first jtaggable xbox the other day (dash 5787 or something like that) and I took no time at all in getting to work on jtagging it. So I followed the guide in making an LPT cable out of an RJ45 cable (tutorial found on these forums) and got to soldering that and the jtag wires on to the xbox.

Now i'm using a PCI LPT card in my computer so I didn't use any of the resistors on the cable and I also patched nandpro to use the correct ports using the patcher. Now I read the nand several times (getting a few bad blocks) and managed to get several identical dumps so I then proceeded to flash Xell to get cpu/dvd key. Now this was all successful.

The issue was I tried to flash freeboot on to the xbox using a usb drive (through xell). This continued to send me directly to Xell on boot. I then read that I needed a dvd drive on there for freeboot to load with the newest dash. After starting from scratch again using a dvd drive all I would get was an E71 error on boot.

So thinking it was my soldering job I proceeded to unsolder everything from the board and solder it all back on. I managed to take one dump of the nand before nandpro starting coming up with 'Could not detect a flash controller!'.

Checking and re-checking my soldering job I can no longer get nandpro to detect a flash controller. After several re-soldering jobs I still can't get it to and so i'm now stuck! I have cleaned the area around the nand/jtag areas to check if I had burnt/scratched any traces but they all look clean and undamaged so i'm really out of ideas.

I have decided that i'm now going to buy the nand-x usb jtag tool to make my life easier, but I also thought it might be better to ask here to see what people have to say about my problem and whether or not the box will work with nand-x or not. So any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

You cant flash freeboot onto the console from a usb using xell as it wont work. Only xellous will allow you to update the nand via a USB.

You might be one of the unlucky people who were only able to read/write to the nand a couple of times before constantly getting the error "could not detect flash controller". Its still unknown what causes this but I heard it happen a few times to other people.

If you still have a xell on the console and its a 16mb nand then you can try this as its worked for a few people.

Thanks for the reply. It seems weird that I was reading/writing the nand 4-5 times a day for several days perfectly fine and it has now stopped working after I resoldered. So like you say i'm every really unlucky or something else has gone wrong.

So would it be a waste of time getting the Nand-X tool?

Update: I shorted the nand (by shorting pins 44-47) and it is now being detected again. I'm currently re-flashing my original nand.
