Hi,

I've got a spare Xbox Elite 120gb that I dont use so I wanted to attempt to rghack it. I have never attempted anything like it before or jtagged at all. These are some things I need cleared up.

1) I was looking at the n00b tutorial on hardware requirements, upon looking at the NAND-X on ModTraders it says you get the QSB kit with it so does that mean I only need Coolrunner board, NAND-X kit and NAND-X to Coolrunner JTAG cable or do I still need the NAND-X to USB Cable also?

2) I have a soldering iron I got year ago but im not sure if its a good one or not, do you need a certain one to be sure your doing the job right?

3) How easy is it to screw up? I know its all down to the user but is it possible for anyone to learn or do you need to have had experience in doing this

Sorry if most of this sounds n00bish but I just need it clarified before I purchase the stuff to give it a go, dont want to be £50 down and a xbox too.

Thanks,

Rowan

If you don't have much soldering experience I would not use this particular mod as an introduction. It's not particularly hard, but I don't think it's entry level either.
The answers to all your Q's are littered all over this forum. Read as much as you can, then read some more before going in. A couple of hours spent reading a few pages of threads will give you a load of insight into some of the problems that you MIGHT come across.

To be honest mate the fact that you are having to ask says that you dont have a enough soldering experince to do this yourself and understandably you are concerned about casuing damage to your pride and joy, there are loads of people on here who could help myself being one of them and I would happy to do this for you if needed.....

My soldering skills were practically zero but as soon as I heard about the RGH I knew that I wanted to do this mod myself.

I watched various tuts on youtube and read all the threads on here and started practicing on old PCBs from old hard drives, motherboards and whatever I could get my hands on.

Take the 360 mobo out and look at what you've got to solder and then try and find similar size points on the boards you've got until you are either happy you can do it or decide it definitely isn't for you.

The big tip that everyone says and you need take note of is FLUX!

I've now done 5 all successful except for a minor problem bridging one of the points but once it was pointed out the box was back up and glitched in minutes.

If you go for it good luck.

Thanks for all the replies, ill rip apart a few things to practise on and test my soldering iron (and skills).

As far as question 1 goes, does that mean from Modtraders I need Coolrunner, NAND-X and NAND-X to Coolrunner JTAG Cable? (I already own a CK3PRO and it says you get QSB with the NAND-X).

I think the QSBs that come with the Nand-X are the old style ones and you will either need to get the Coolrunner QSBs or go for a wire install. I haven't used the Coolrunner QSBs and they are all booting fine.

If the Nand-X isn't already updated to V3 you will need the CK3 to NandX cable to upgrade it.

NandX: Updated to 3.0
Cool Runner: and files for your MB so you can program it
CK3 cable to NandX: to update NandX. Also check if you have REV "D" on your CK3 if It's REV D you will have to add a wire (Tut on this site)
NandX to CF cable: To program CR
Cool Runner QSB for Phat or Slim: For reading & Writing Nand & Xell ( you don't have use these but It's worth the money)
