Fitting X3 legally

I want to fit X3 chips in peoples' XBOX's.

If their HDD is locked then if I don't flash an illegal bios to the chip and I disable the chip when turning the XBOX on, the MSDash should load up right?
So they will still be able to use their XBOX while they're waiting to get it flashed with the X3 Bios. I was just thinking, if I fitted the X3 for them and all that they could do was watch the flashbios screen and not be able to play original games, they would get pretty p****d off with me.:D

Thanks in advance.

Also, the stock HDD is usually locked right?

I always ask customers questions about operation of, and flashing of their modchip before accepting the job. If they don't know what they're doing, I tell them to come back when they do. This allows me to do 100% legal mod installs, while still preventing major customer service problems afterwards.

I leave the mod on since the customer already knows what to do from there...

edit
Of course the stock hdd is already locked. The MS dash won't work if it's not..

Thats what I was gonna do, but I was just wondering if they could still launch the MSDash and play original games untill they have found out how to flash it with the X3 Bios. Can they play original games and launch the ms dash if they have a locked harddrive and the chip is disabled?

Yes they can.

not to be rude or anything, but maybe you shouldn't be doing installs for people until you know what you are doing yourself. Only reason I say this is because after you perform an install people usually have questions and it doesn't sound like you are going to be able to answer them very efficiently judging by some of the questions you have asked here. Check out some FAQ's and learn all you can before you start doing installs, it will pay off with your customer service in the end.

Installing the modchip is fine, just don't flash the chip for them unless its Linux.

A very valid point.

People assume that it's enough to know how to fit a chip. There's much more to know on the subject. PC engineers have had this stigma for years. What us 'modders' do may look easy at times (and it is for us), but only because we've taken the time to learn.

Imagine how crappy you'd feel if you wrecked someone's Xbox through lack of knowledge? It could be a very costly exercise.

Take the time to read up and learn. You'll appreciate the knowledge : your customers will appreciate it ten times more than you :)

It's okay, I have learnt a hell of a lot here by reading the forums, great site team xecuter. Thanks for all the help guys. This was one of the very last things I wanted to verify before I start modding people's XBOX's.

The last questions are: can I temporarily install an X3 chip flashed with X3 in order to upgrade the hdd using the X3 bios, then lock it with the and bios (how do I do this please), and then flash flashbios back on the chip?

I didn't mean to say temporarily, i meant:

Install x3, flash with x3 bios, upgrade and lock the harddrive with the x3 bios (how do I lock it?), then flash flashbios back onto the chip so that it is a: legal modified xbox with 120gb hdd, can be used to play original games and launches msdash when chip is disabled.

Thanks in advance.:)

You can lock and unlock the hdd on the legal cromwell flashbios screen. Can't you?

Once you have the pin header installed, you can use a preflashed X3 chip just by plugging it into the socket.

That's cool, so how do I flash the chip with flashbios after upgrading the hdd using X3 Config Live? I want to do this to make it legal to sell.

Dont take this the wrong way but I find it funny that you have 362 posts and still dont know how to do the simplest of these things. :D I think that you should wait a while before modding anyone elses xbox.

Alot of my posts are helping people with stuff I know how to do, or talking about customisations, about 200 of them were when I was learning the basics. I know roughly everything about XBOX modding except stuff about XBOXLIVE and the above questions.

Thanks, TokenUser. Thats all my questions answered. It took me a year, but know I don't have anymore questions. Thanks to everyone here at TeamXecuter for helping me out. Now I will help the noobs.:)

I really find this hard to believe - asking basic questions about HDD locking etc shows little knowledge. The information for this is aplenty both here and Xbox-Scene.com

I would start buy purchasing busted Xboxes from ebay and fixing and modding them and then sell those. After you get the hang of that then take other people's xboxes and work wonders.

The other thing, if you are planning on upgrading their HDD keep in mind when you do it'll be a vanilla drive with nothing on it. This means you also need to copy the msdash over to the new drive first.

The order I leant the things that I know about XBOX might be a bit messed up, (a few basic things last) but that doesn't mean that I don't know how to do the rest. And again, thanks 'cos without all the people here at these forums for the last year I wouldn't know how to do anything about modding XBOX.

I have fitted chips pefect every time. I'm good at soldering and have about £200 worth of electronics tools, I was modding cd players, rc cars, and gba's before I chipped my XBOX. And I had no instructions at all. It's good fun when you have to cut away unnecessary parts and fit something into a product that it isn't supposed to or is hard to fit inside.
