OK, i installed the modchip, turned on the xbox and flash bios 3.0.0 came up. I burned the 1957 bios to a cd-r at 4x. i flashed successfully it to the xbox and then the xbox turned off. so i restarted the xbox and it tried to start up and turned off twice and the it started to FRAG. so i went to backup mode flashed the 1943 gold bios by cd-r and it did the same thing. so then i tried to flash by http and it said it had an invalid file size.

the dip switches are set to on on off off off.

the bios was not corrupt.

xbox version 1.0 NTSC

please help. i did not have much luck with my last post

Re: trying to start - stop -trying to start - stop - FRAG

just did the cd flash again with a different brand cd and it did the same thing.
i tried the eject button start to. didnt work.

could somebody please take a picture or tell me what all it says at the top of the screen while its flashing by cd?

and would this be a problem with the pin header? because when i was installing it 1 or 2 of the pins were just a little shorter than the others, but im pretty sure they still got a connection

I have the same symptom brownwebb had. Installed the modchip and Cromwell 3.0.0 would come up. Then I tried flashing the 1943 gold bios with the switches at on on off off off. The progress bar on the tv froze at about 30%. I waited about 5 minutes and cut it off. I get FRAG now. I did rename the bios file to "bios.bin" before I flashed it. And I used the http way of flashing. The only way I can get the Xbox to work is using the backup bios or disabling the modchip. How do I try to flash it again if it just FRAGs? It doesn't give me the option to flash it unless I'm in the backup mode.

And also I couldn't ftp to it for some reason...is there a certain name and password I have to use?

FlashBios doesn't have an embedded ftp server -- the X3 bios has that. You're stuck with disc/http flashing.

To flash it again, set the switches to the bank you wanna flash, then boot flashbios from the backup bank.

Also, make sure you're using the proper bios for your xbox (1.6 or not), verify the flash protection isn't on (i'm sure you've seen that plenty), and if things still aren't working redownload the bios and check the MD5's.

use backup - what do you think its for ?

when you boot from backup it flashes the main rom NOT the backup rom

I'm 100% sure that flash protection is off on the chip. I booted from backup bios and have the switches at on on off off off. I tried 2 ways to flash it now. The CD way and http. Both ways give me an error: Unknown flash...halting. Guess I'll dl another bios and try it. Or switch to a different bank.

Evenfire make sure the switch on the chip is towards the Pin Header, if you still have the problems disconnect the dip switch and see if that helps

Re: xbox wont read disks

Does the CD happen to be Halo 3 ODST cuz i had the same problem with all disk being readable except ODST and the problem is that the old first gen consols were not very combatible with new games like ODST, and 36% of people according to a survay were not able play this disc.
