FlahsBIOS freezes after 3/4 progress!?!

Hey All,

Let me make a long and frustrating story short!

I had just finished my first 1.6b x3 installation, which I didn't think was going to be any different from the other versions ... but surprise :p

So after flashing over my bios (which is what I think you all assumed I'd do :p), I used my other xbox (a 1.6) to set the backup bank to 3.0.3

So far, optimistic. I take that chip, put it into the 1.6b, and boot to the backup (any other bank results in power cycles and then frag).

I choose network flashing, and select any 16plus bios (i have 1959, 3029, 3294) and this is where the unusual happens:

instead of instantly flashing the bios, it takes about half a minute for anything to change on the flashbios screen. then it goes thru the motions, first yellow status bar, then green, and then it completely STOPS at 3/4 of the green status bar.

Any ideas? also, the Flash Type sometimes comes up with manf=0x00, dev=0x00 ... not sure what this indicates... MARTIN_C or SUPERMAN, PLEASE HELP!

1. just visually check soldering, all look good?
2.have you flicked the flash protect switch on the chip itself?
3.try flashing another bios , x2 or evox see if that works.

Hey Matt,

tx for the quick replies ... the soldering job is definitely clean, chip itself is set to protect OFF, as is the last dipswitch ...

I'll try flashing a different bios, but what does that tell us about anything? (just out of curiousity) ... i've successfully flashed those bioses onto other chips previously ...

Tried to boot from CD, didn't read the disc.

I think its the media, but i don't have many other options at this point ... like i said earlier, I got the x2 bios flashed on ... maybe the problem has something to do with bios size?

help?

anybody?

hilary duff?

Ok, feels like I'm talking to myself, but at this point who cares ...
swapped DVD ROMS, and then tried to flash from CD, same thing, freezes at 3/4 mark of the green bar.

now what ?

I am having the same problem. But I can only get Cromwell to come up on only 2 banks I cant even get the backup to work. It stopped 3/4 way on HTTP, I tried DVD method and it froze ay about 1/3 of the way. I returned my chip but I am still having the same problems.

half success ...

I managed to fully flash the x2 bios onto the chip and install a dashboard ... but i obviously did not get the full features of the X3 ... but yeah ... if you're desperate ... give it a try.
