Hi,

I have never done this (flashed my bios), but I have read just about everything in all the forums. I really don't want to screw up. So, here I sit, with a super cool machine, at the flash bios screen.

I have a modded xbox with an X3 chip. FlashBios 3.0.0 It has the standard ms dash/bios.

I want to save this, and flash to 2913. How do I save the existing bios/MS dash?

Any suggestion/tips would be wonderful.

Thank you in advance,

oops

your flashbios should already backed up on the back up bank so there is no need to save. Besides, you can obtain it from the usual place. You can safely proceed to flash 2913 to banks 1234 (on on off off off) or banks 5678 (off on off off off). You have to understand that bios does not contain MS dashboard. It is a software on your hd and would not be changed by updating bios (unless you format the drive). With Slayer's 2.6, you may also reinstall stock MS dashboard (if I remember correctly) incase you format your drive.

Flash Bios Ver 1959 to 2913

Okay, I have the xbox up with a little more info.

X3 Build 1959
Xbox is V1.6

I want to flash to the latest X3 bios, so I am assuming I would go get the 2913 for the V1.6.

Do I need FlashBIOS 3.3 to do the flash? If so, how do I flash to 3.3?

Sorry, but this is the first flash, and it's kind of scary

make sure you have xbox v1.6 (samsung memory) and not v1.6b (Hynix memory). If you have version 1.6 xbox, you need flashbios v3.0.1 since there is an issue with v3.0.3. If you have v1.6b, you would need flashbios v3.0.3 from what I just learned.

My suggestion is this. Obviously your chips is happy as it is. Look to see where is the location of your 1959 bios is (I suspect located on banks 1234 (on on off off off on the control panel). If it is then I would suggest to flash the new bios on banks 5678 (off on off off off) just in case you screw things up and you would still have a working bios. To get to flashbios, press eject/power buttons at the same time. Your control panel light should be purple. Look at what version of cromwell (flashbios) it is. If it's v3.0.1, you are all set. If it's anything lower and your xbox works, then why mess around with it. Then from there update with X3 2913 v16plus.bin bios but make sure to set your control panel switch to off on off off off first (or whereever that bios 1959 is not residing)

to make life simple, you can use http to flash but some people have problems with that. I would highly recommend you put X3 2913 v16plus.bin in a folder called "bios" (without the quotes) and then ftp to your xbox c:\ partition. Then update using flashbios from hd. That method never failed on me.
