oops: For the last week I've been trying to flash my X3chip. Ive read all the tutorials on how to create a cd/dvd and followed all the instructions, but none of them will work. The msg comes up
"No Bios Update Found. Halting"
I have tried putting the switches in all of the available positions, to no avail. I've created the 100+mb dummy file and tried all the different bios and burnt to disk. Im using a Phillips DVD+RW. Now For my questions!!!
:?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!:
1)Does anyone know if there are problems using the Phillips DVD+RW?
2)When I burn the disk, I've been choosing to burn as a data disk, is this right?
3) If you can't see anything that I've done wrong, have you got any ideas what the problem might be???
4) I've heard its much easier to flash via my PC, what do i need and how do I do it?

Any help is much appreciated
Cheers

drives are very fickle. Try quality CD-RW or DVD-R. My samsung drives wont read DVD+R at all. not even ritek.

DVD+RW should work ok for you, however as catogtp says, some drives can be fickle.

It's SOOO much easier to flash from the PC!

Connect the PC to the Xbox via a crossover cable. Select the network flash option on flashBIOS.

If all is well, the Xbox should come back with an IP address.

Go to your PC and open your web browser.
Type in http:// then the IP address you were given, so if you were given 192.168.1.34 you'd type in

http://192.168.1.34

You should get a webpage up. Browse for your BIOS file and click on the Update button. It will now flash the chip.

Martin

EDIT: It's also worth making sure your chip is NOT set to PROTECTED.

Re: unknown flash chip

sometimes it reads... no identify possible
flash manu I.D 0xff
device I.D 0xff
flash type unknown

at which point i have to start again

others, normally after changing io ports,
no identify possible
flash manu I.D 0xC2
device I.D 0x11
flash type MXIC/Macronix(MX25L2005)

at which point i get a little happy and get through the next few commands just fine but when it comes to erasing it just freezes after 3 dots ...

Re: unknown flash chip

I had exactly the same problem. It gave me exactly the same error and the unknown flash chip message.

What i done was followed the tutorial in this section of the forum for the L-O-ERASE using I-PREP and it worked flawlessly.

Hope this helps.

Re: unknown flash chip

What version of I-PREP are you using and are you doing it correctly as i had no problems with the l-o-erase once i booted in dos. It was Jungleflasher that was giving me the trouble.

What size is your USB stick???

Re: unknown flash chip

Yes use i-prep 10.7 and make sure you select the right port on the right hand side and load up the ix fw on the left even though you wont use it and then follow the instructions here:

http://360mods.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=20321

Hope this helps.

P.S it worked for me fine so you shouldn't have a problem to be honest.

Switch your pc off and leave it off for 5 minutes and then boot it back up and once its turned off make sure to disconnect your drive and then reconnect it before you switch PC back on BUT DO NOT switch power on untill I-PREP has booted up in DOS.

How are you powering the drive??? 360 Power or Connectivity Kit?
