LITEON 74850 Flash Drive only Reads Originals

Bear in mind that, I've flashed tons of drives before and this sort of has me stumped since I've never had to come across something like this before. I successfully flashed the drive and the JF log clearly says so. After a failed bootup of 3 different backups, I tried reflashing; same result occurred. My original worked however the backup once again made a weird noise and failed to read. I get the classic "open tray" option at the menu instead of play game. I've done a little bit of research and here is my plan of attack:

1. Try playing around with pot tweaks and see if that can fix the problem.
2. Buy a new dvd drive and spoof my old key.

My question is... is the pot tweak a pointless solution? And a new dvd drive should in fact guarantee me a fix?

Replace the laser. Theres no need to replace the drive when it works. Also, what kind of media are you using?

verbs. but they work in my other xbox.
But just to clarify, a weak laser could be the reason for this issue? It's strong enough to read originals, but too weak to read backups?

Yes, if your getting open tray its most likely the laser. You could do a pot tweak but eventually your going to have to replace the laser.

Since you're already a veteran into these things, the laser is the problem.

It's probably seen it's maxed labour, so a new one would be ideal.
