you will need to disassemble your console, determine the proper method for flashing your dvd drive, and then put it all back together

damn, I was hoping it was going to be easier than that. Would you recommend a YouTube user with a good step-by-step video?

nope, no, and definitely not

Everything you need to know, can be found here on this site in the sticky sections of the respective sub-forum. TX pioneered everything as far as 360 modding goes, so it doesn't make much sense to get your information second-hand.

Well the sub-forum you need depends on what you are trying to achieve. There are sub-forums for RGH, for noobs, for flashing drives etc. Just find the one for what you actually want to do and all the info will be in the stickys in that section.

Flashing the drive isnt the answer he wanted. He wanted to play "his" backup'd games from a flash drive (Usb memory stick)

The only way to do that is RGH (Hardware mod) or other OCDE (hardware) means..... ( Which im not going in to unless TX bring one out :) )

too many posts with different variations of the word flash will do that lol

either way, the info is all here, just read A TON, and decide what you want to do

Usually the easiest and cheapest thing to do is send your console to someone.

the only sticky I see in each section is the list of rules; is it possible that I'm restricted?

This is the simplest and most accurate answer.
If your not willing to put any effort into modifying your console then the answer is simply "NO".
I own a tool set and a soldering gun; I don't mind to get my hands dirty. I'm just having trouble finding a step-by-step process for getting this done. Playing my games from a flash drive is ideal, but I'm not opposed to using backed-up discs if there's a way to do it.

Is there a way to play my back-up from a burned disc with a soft-mod? I usually have some trouble watching backed-up DVDs from my console so I usually just hook the laptop directly to the TV (hence the reason I thought playing from my usb flash drive storage device would be ideal) -- I don't mind to put in the work; I just need somewhere to start.

and thiers info here on how to do everything you can possibly do to a 360 if you take the time to research rgh is what you need to play games either off a hdd,or flash drive.if in usa and want to send to a pro,if you have the parts already its 35 plus 12 return,or if you do not have the parts its 65 plus return.if you only want the drive flashed to play backed up games its 15 plus 12 return.also to rgh a console yourself will cost alot more to get all the tools needed.

To play your backup games from disk, you first have to know how to rip your original copies. You should start your research with how to use XBOX Backup Creator. To do this properly you will also need to know how to flash 0800 firmware to your xbox DVD drive (or a spare xbox dvd drive).
AWESOME!! Now we're talking!! Thank you so much!! Where's a thread that gives step-by-step for flashing the 0800 firmware to my drive?

Holy crap bro, please. For the sake of human kind use GOOGLE. Get your drive model name and search eg : dg-16d2s 0800 firmware. I did it for mine (thats my drive) and it brought me straight to a tx forum thread. Use your noodle please.
