Flash Hangs when writing a 1024 KB bios

I am unable to flash the Xecuter 3 bios because I cannot flash any bios files larger than 256KB.

When I try to flash the current X3 Bios from Cromwell the yellow bar completes and then the green bar hangs at about 25% complete.

I have tried with the dip switches set to (on, on, off, off, off), (off, on, off, off, off), and (off, off, off, off, off).

I am able to flash the 256KB M8 bios to all the banks -- but I can't load ANY bios larger than 256KB.

I'm beginning to think that this chip is defective... Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

yeah, stop frelling around with that damn switch and DISCONNECT it. you can control what bank(s) you want to flash to in X3CL. try that and see what happens.
READ THE GUIDES!!!!!!! You would have found this answer by simply reading the guides and stickies and using search.

I've unplugged the control pannel -- and the flash still hangs at around 25%.

I have read the forums and such -- I think there may be a problem with the actual chip. I've heard of people having trouble flashing to the first 1024KB and then being able to flash to the second 1024 (Off, on, off, off, off)... I've not been able to flash to either.

Any other ideas???

if you have a v1.6 XB you might need FlashBIOS 3.0.1. also check to see you 1957 BIOS is not corrupt.

Hey I've been in contact with my distributor -- It seems like it is a common problem for these chips to not flash properly... they gave me an RMA.

Thanks a bunch for your help.

no the common problem is you guys not reading documentation.

this is the exact reason why 95% of returns work just fine

unplug the switch cable FROM THE X3 itself - not the cable from the switch like so many of you have ben doing

what you have faulty is a switch and not an x3 - if the x3 is faulty its not going to bootup at all

its all down to your wiring / connections. thats it. nothing else.

Re: Removing Bezel

you dont need to remove anything...take apart the case, remove the drive, if you have the power adapter...if not leave drive in xbox and use the xbox power....hook up sata to computer, run JF...thats it

Re: Removing Bezel

You'll want to grab the bezel from the bottom and pull outward a bit, then up.

There are 2 clips on the bottom, put your thumbs on those when pulling outward, then when you get a little space, pull it upward.
