Any ideas? Is there a way to recover the 1mb flash with the backup flash setting? I can get into the flash bios screen when I boot up to the 256k backup but when I boot to the 1mb bank that I flashed with the 1.6 1957 x3 bios instead of the bios 1959 for 1.0-1.5 the screen is blank with no sound. I can disable the chip leaving everything plugged in and it boots to the MS dash just fine. Any ideas now?

boot 256K backup and then set switches for bank1 on,on,off,off,off...then reflash with correct bios..

you do not need to boot it from backup with the right switches set...you just need to make sure the switches are set to the right bank before you flash.

Bank 1 on,on,off,off,off
Bank 2 off,on,off,off,off

Ok it lets me boot to the 256k flashbios screen and I have all switches set to off. I then set Bank 1 on, on, off, off, off and flash protect off on chip and switch in front. It says waiting for drive then goes back to please insert cd like the bios is too large for the bank it is trying to flash. I have the x3_erase default.xbe burnt to a xbox complient disc and am wondering if there is a way to just erase the bios banks back to empty with it or if it just defaults the settings on x3configlive. I am reburning the 1959 bios to a disk and goign to try it again this time with a different brand disc. Also I have flashbios version 3.0.0. Is there a way to upgrade this which would intern erase my banks on the chip so that I could reflash them with the correct bios?

You can flash 256K bios to the backup (i have EVOX M8) but none will give u x3 config live.
You need a 1M 1959 for that.
I wouldn't flash the backup til you have a workinfg flash in another bank though

You do not need to delete the flash to reflash..it will overwrite it for u..

Dont forget you can have two 1M banks (on,on,off, off, off Bank 1 or off,on,off, off, off Bank 2).

no need for a programmer just boot backup Cromwell and reflash with switches set for 1M bank

Yes there is but it's tricky..
R u sure u cannot flash to either bank (switch settings in post above).

You will need to flash Evox M8 (or v1.6+ for 1.6 boards) bios to the 256k backup flash...then create a cd to install Evox dash.

Once you have this configure evox for FTP and ftp the x3erase xbe to your box.
From there just run it using the evox file manager.

Or configure your evox cd to boot and run the erase directly from cd.

not much help to you guys but the latest release X3 bios has the erase built into the bios and can be run with button combination at boot
X3 EEprom Emergency Format (A+B+X+Y - hold on bootup)

No way to flash the backup without getting into x3 CFL or ftp'ing to it...either way it needs x3 bios to do it

Look..i didnt explain this very well...sorry guys
put M8 on a 256k bank eg bank 8 and then boot it ..just follow the rest from there.
i think i confused people with lazy thinking..a couple of times i said flash backup which cannot be done..
I mean flash from backup to a 256K bank
this link is a perfect explanation
