Firstly i hope this is the correct section to post this question, if not i apologise now.

Secondly i have searched hard and long before posting this, but can not find a relevent post.

I am a complete noob, i know absolutely nothing at all, so could some one please tell me if you have to flash the xbox bios as well as chipping it, or

Is flashing the bios done instead of chipping? -

If flashing is done instead of chipping, how do i know wether my Xbox needs flashing or chipping.

If it requires Chipping, are there differant chips for differant models/versions?

I hope these are not stupid questions, i know so little, i dont even know if these questions are stupid or not.

Thanks in advance.

Depends, there are 2 methods:

1.Softmod, involves using various exploits of initial code, as is no other mods needed
2. Chip, which bypasses the origional TSOP and boots a modified bios.

See point 1 and 2

Depends on if you chipped it or softmodded it

If it requires Chipping, are there differant chips for differant models/versions?
TeamX chips are the best IMHO, yes there are 2 versions currently available X2.6 and X3, both service all types of XBOX BUT There are different BIOS's V1-V1.5 and V1.6-V1.6B for both the X2.6 and the X3

Hope that helps....

Personally I prefer to chip it, as you bought it second hand it may have been softmodded may even be banned on live, its a gamble you take mate particularly if its a second hand box.

If you can solder there is a chip out there for you, if you can not there is a solderless adapter. If you can use software and have the relevent games you can softmod, the choice ultimatly is yours.

You need to find out what version of box you have if you decide to chip. Take a look at the portal, there are tuts there, read a bit before jumping in.

Maybe I am drunk again and did not explain.....

Yes you can flash you TSOP on your origional box, you will need to SOFTMOD it or CHIP it

The TSOP is where your origional bios is stored.

Why the fascination with wanting to flash the bios?

Read about softmodding and read about chipping. There are stacks of tutorials about, at the end of the day it is YOUR choice if it Fluxores up it is your fault no one elses. Look on XBOX-Scene and the tut section on the portal here.
