Just to give some feedback.
I ordered another PCB and got the drive up and running. Works fine now. I also think I found the issue with the 9504 PCB. I touched the flash chip and it was extremly hot. Too hot to touch for a human touch. After close investigation, it looks like the chip isn't properly placed on the pads, possibly causing a short. I suspect the PCB was a refurb and the person who did it didn't do it properly. Will see if I can fit it properly myself at a later stage. Luckily I have a working drive again.
