Ok, I've been working on my xbox for three days now and can't get it to flash the bios, no matter what I do it says its "halting".
I've had many many problems with this install, its my first, but I am an electronics technician by profession so this is pretty sad. I'm an experienced solderer and have already checked for continuity across all my solder joints, so we can rule that out to begin with.
The first major problem I had which is still not fully resolved, was the enable/disable state of the chip, originally it would only boot up disabled when hitting the power button, and eventually I realized that I could enter all three states by using the eject button, but if I hit the eject button while the xbox was on it would change states. So I reversed the wires on the cable going from the power/eject chip to the x3, and now I can enter all three states with the power button and use the eject button without changing states. But it doesn't work correctly. A very very quick tap of the power button enters disabled boot, A semi-quick tap enters enabled, and holding it enters backup, regardless of how I enter them, I can enter all three states, so no big deal.
The problem I am most concerned with is that I can't flash the bios, I've tried http, I can connect to the xbox and it says its receiving the bios file, then says the file is not recognized and "halts". same with cd-rw, the xbox reads the disc but gives the same halting message. According to the flashbios tutorial the first screen shows a "read only" message if u have flash protect on, which mine shows. I have tried every combination of switch settings with the switch on the chip and the switch on the control panel, I can get a green and a red light on the chip but can't seem to "unprotect" the chip. By the way I have tried several bios versions, the one I am currently tooling with is x3 ver. 3294. And yes I did use the correct file, and changed the name to just "bios" on the cd. Any insight would be greatly appreciated......
