Not 100% sure why you would even need to update the flashbios screen on the chip since your gonna generally replace it with the newest x3 bios at a later point. So why not just upgrade the newest bios from the one you have now it'll work all the same.

I had just uploaded it by flashing it like any other bios file, but when I restart it it's still the v3.0.1. I think I need to resolder something. I tested all my soldering with a meter so I know all the points that I can test are good and everyone tells me that if I can get to the flashbios screen that the chip has to be in properly, but something just isn't right.

And after some more reading it seems I only need v3.0.1 on a 1.6 but would need the 3.0.3 on a 1.6b. BUT a friend of mine whose X3 I just got done with installing worked perfectly and already had 3.0.3 on his and his box was a 1.6. So I thought going to 3.0.3 might do something for me.

All bioses I flash will get sound but no video except v1892 for some strange reason.. And I would just use that except its password protected. So I found x3_erase but I can't get the xbox to read my cd-r to run it on the original drive or a cd-rw drive I slaved in.

Blah. Resoldered everything, does exactly the same. Anyone have a definitive way to kill off a bios password? It looks like the only kind of bioses I can get to boot are beta bioses, and they're all password protected. Anyone know a beta bios password I can try?

All you need to do is flash the latest X3 BIOS to your chip. Boot from that bank whilst holding A+B+X+Y until it reboots. It'll go right through the flubber startup but keep holding the buttons down. Finally, you'll see it reboot. Your X3 EEPROM should be erased!

I would do that but when I use a newer bios I get sound but no video. Only the older beta bioses I get video with. The "Xecuter rox my box" thing comes up and everything. All lights come on and the bios protect switch is not enabled. And I've tried the A+B+X+Y press through boot (I held them for at least 25-30 seconds) and it does nothing. But I'll try it again anyway. :(

I think the ABXY reset is only on the more recent bios's that'd be why it's not working for you. The issue with current bios giveing you a black screen should be fixable though. What have you tried, to fix this? (so i dont just tell you stuff you already know :) )

Pretty much everything possible, I've been reading and trying different things for over a week now. I've tried all the different bios banks and over 25 different bioses in them. I started with the newest bioses and when those didn't work I started trying older ones. I've always flashed over the network. I tried burning bioses to cd's but my drive (a Samsung) won't read much of anything. I renamed the file to BIOS.BIN and included a 50MB dummy.bin file.

I've resoldered and checked my connections with a multimeter twice. Ok, checked alot more than that, but only touched up the solder points twice.

My last resort is to kidnap the last xbox I put this chip into and try flashing it with that box. The last one worked fine so I'm puzzled as to why this one is giving me so much trouble.

1 thing springs to mind on your CD's, i have always been recommended to use a 100Mb dummy file, but as you say it still should have worked over the network flash. So out of curiosity, a 256K bios works fine but the latest X3 bios's won't work (no video)? That does seem like a pin 13&14 soldering problem as mentioned here:

You've probably already tried that have you? If your last Xbox worked fine, I would definitely try to get your hands on it. Put the X3 chip from that one into this box and it should work straight off the bat. Sorry for no more help from me :)

Orange is i think a video problem? Are you using the original VGA Cable?
Yes, I am. At first (like a month ago before I knew anything) I was trying to use the Hi-Def AV cable on my bigscreen but a friend told me I had to use the basic AV cable, so I've been using that and a regular 32" TV.

At the flashbios screen it is solid green, only after I reboot into a bios, one I can see video on or not, I get the flashing orange.
