I've tried a few different types of cd-r's and cd-rw's
when I attempt to load the bios from the disc, it just sits at the 'waiting for drive' screen for a minute, then ejects it again.

I am absolutely sure I am formatting the disc correctly, and have even tried qwix.

http seems to not work at all with my pc, When I connect a crossover cable windows says there is an active lan, but It never receives any data, and I cannot connect to the xbox (it defaults to static ip)

I've even resorted to hooking up my cd burner to the xbox directly and using the cd drive to read the burned discs.. that seemed to work, but when I boot the bios it turns on & off 3 times then frags.

What type of drive do you have in your xbox? Also DVD media reads the best on an xbox, so you can try burning it to a dvd-r or dvd-RW

Just because you bought it recently does NOT mean that you have a 1.6.
Did you even go through the step in the installation instructions where it tells you how to distinguish which box you have?? It is VERY important,..hell if you're using the WRONG VERSION of the bios it will frag.

DO us a favor an give us the SOLID info.

Read the FIRST sticky thread in the MAIN forum www.teamxecuter.com/forums THEN come back an fill us in.

Help us help you.

Note: It doesn't mention, but tell us what the EXACT name of the bios you are flashing is.

This would be the main reason I've never registered for the forums until now, I've read the stickys I've searched the forums, I've probably read about 300 or so posts.

The veterans are assholes to the noobs. I'm sorry that I was not more clear with my post, but this is a simple hobby, I'm only asking for some help because I paid for a product thats not working for me.

Sorry, allow me to clarify.
I originally found that I had a 1.6 by looking at the video chip. Stupid me forgot to continue on the xbox-scene page and find if it were 1.6 or 1.6b, but I assumed it didn't matter because I would use the X3 3108 v16plus.bin bios. NOW, when I was able to successfuly flash it by rigging my cd burner up to the xbox, I tried both X3 bios's on different banks just to see if it would work, both restart 3x and frag. (and yes, I was selecting 1mb banks)

fyi I went through the xbox-scene version walkthrough again, and it came up with
=> You have a xbox v 1.6 <=

The Xbox will definitely default to the static IP if you use a crossover cable.
(Simply because there is no DHCP server, that is unless you start a DHCP server on your PC)

Make sure that your computer's IP is different than the static IP for the XBox.

Quite honestly, it is much simpler if you use a router or a hub so that it's DHCP server takes care of connectivity.
(I had a guy borrow a friend's router the other day and it worked beautifully.)

If you use the crossover cable method there are of course tuts and what not, but for the most part I would say it's a matter of having different IPs.
(ONLY the last digits ie, 192.168.0.1, and 192.168.0.2)

ps, The difference between 1.6and 1.6b is huge, otherwise we would not note it.
Flashbios 3.0.1 is on banks 1-4 AND the backup bios when shipped, so the ONLY banks that can run a 1.6b are banks 5678 which is why I made a deal of it. If in fact you had flashed over bank 5678, then helping you fix it without having another box to put it in would have wasted both of our time.
(DONT ask how many times that happenned to me recently.)

found an old huge 10base-t rack mount router (ugh)
I am able to connect my pc to the internet through the router, and the xbox connection shows a green light, but I'm still getting a static ip (192.168.0.99) and I can't connect to it. (although I am on the internet at the same time right now)

when i tried to connect to that IP, I saw on the TV screen 'bbb' appear 1 line below where it said dhcp failed... odd..

and my router shows a connection to the xbox, but no data being received. The only time my router blinked, it was when the xbox was trying to find the dhcp server.

Edit:

could my gateway create issues with this?
its 68.13.etc...

if you can bypass the router and put the cable from the xbox straight to the pc and it should work, this is the only way i can connect to my xbox (you may need a different cable)

My xbox defaults to static IP as well, and i can still HTTP flash no worries. You just type in the IP that it gives you into your browser in the format:

http://192.168.0.99

when u plugged in the x-over cable is the light on your pc and xbox lite up? If not then check and make sure it is x-over cable. Turn the connector with the clip side down, pin 1 is on the left and pin 8 is on the right. One end of the connector pin 1=white/green and the other connector pin=white/orange.

Configure your pc for static ip: 192.168.0.1 subnetmask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1. Your xbox already has an static ip so no need to configure it. On your computer click on Start, run, then type cmd. When a window popup type ping 192.168.0.99. You should get three replies. Make sure no firewall running on your pc.

If you have good ping from your pc to your xbox then flash via http will work.

I have XBOX 1.0 and was unable to get the CD-R working as well on Thompson DVD XBOX CD/DVD unit. Can try CD+R. Better yet use DVD media which worked after my failed attempt with CD-R.
