Has anyone come across this?

I've been given a flashed slim that plays backups, needs to be updated to LT+ 2.0

Opened her up and found a DG-16D4S with 0225 Winbond firmware.

I then opened up the Liteon only to find the MT Chip untouched !!!

I turned over the pcb to find some kind of stain underneath the position of the MT Chip.

Is this possible? A flashed 0225 winbond, with the MT Chip intact?

I've attached some pictures.

And before I get the usual "I call BS", I have no reason in the world to make things up.

I won't flash this drive cos i'm not happy with a dremel/iron/knife. and there is no other way, right?

if it has old dash you can use the slimkey in jungleflasher to read it as the drive isnt spi locked until dash 13599

The 4th picture clearly shows the SPi status as '0x0000' (denoting 'Un-Locked')

However as I remember the 0225 drives were distributed with the SPi Locked

Unless this was originally a 9504 drive which had been factory updated to a 0225u, but still I thought they came locked

Very interesting all the same......BTW what dash is the Console currently on and can you post your JF log with the FW dump please :p

Yes if it has a old dashboard.

Are you guys not getting mixed up with the 9504/0272 drive

I also thought that 0225 drives were locked from day one.

Dash is 2.0.12625.0, not that it makes a differnce with the 0225

I've attached the log of the full dump.

Hope this helps.

Also, anyone got any ideas on the stain under the pcb, it wasn't me :rolleyes2:

That is certainly unusual for the SPi to be un-locked (0x00)

I have read about the same thing elsewhere in one of the threads but I can't find it :rolleyes2:

Open up JF and click on iRc support (far right tab) it will take you to the iRc channel and you could ask someone directly if they have come across this before and if it is likely to LOCK if you update :)

Having the SPi un-locked isn't necessarily a problem but it COULD lock if you update to the latest dash (13599) and then you would need TX PCB, Kamikaze or replacement MXIC PCB to be able to flash the latest CFW to it :mad2:

Let us know how you get on buddy :)

Well the chip hasn't been removed because the resin is still intact

Update: Been on IRC. A factory unlocked winbond 0225 is very rare and yes it will probably lock if I attempt an update.

So I'll just hand this one back, not brave enough for the kamakazi and the customer won't fork out for a replacement board.

Thanks for all your help.

How come I'm lucky enough to find a very rare dvd drive, but not those elusive lottery numbers?

It's easy... I think your vendor installed an unlocked 9504 board, before updating the dashboard with the original drive, if you soft lock the drive, I think to get it again unlocked, you must use the kamikaze method... so be careful.
