Hey everyone,

I have a 360 with a Hitachi 59 drive which I bought it back in November 2006. Prior to flashing the drive with Maximus-Garyopa v2.3 Rev 2, the box froze on occasion, but very rarely so didn't really think of it as a problem.

Anyway, flashed easily and have been playing backups of my games & the originals with no problems until about a week ago when my box started freezing all the time. It would literally power up, then freeze or a couple of mins then freeze or halfway through a game (it was not consistant). Yesterday it would not let me play at all as it just kept freezing as soon as the game was loading up, no matter what game.

I tried restoring the drive to its original state, but the freezing problem remains. I tried re-flashing it too but still freezes. Although it seems to be ok again for a day, but this may just be conincidence.

When I flashed the box the warranty extension was not in place so I figured I didn't have much to lose. Well anyway, now my box has developed the infamous freezing problem I can not send it back for repair.

I heard the freezing problem was due to trouble with some of the DVD drives.

Is there anything I can do myself to sort this problem?

Any help would be appreciated before I spend out on a new box.

Cheers.

Oh it also freezes when playing games on the Hard Drive or navigating the dashboard so not just when playing games, but more so.

its the 360 not the dvd drive. Reflashe your xbox back to original and send it to M$ for repair at the cost of 130 dollars.

I've read that a common cause of the freezing problem was the DVD drives. Even if I restore it and send it back to MS they will not touch it as the security seal is broken and you can see slight marks where it's been opened.

if you have your original firmware file, you can extract the key and put it on a new dvd drive.(if you are 100% sure its the dvd drive)
does it only freeze when booting games or does it just freeze at random?

thats a samsung ms25. Thats WAAAY better than the hitachi. All you need to do is spoof to report as 0059 and flashe with latest firmware and your good to go. Dont forget to inject your drive key.

Ah ok, I will look into how to do that & get to it. I was wondering if I could do that because the old Hitachi drives are so noisy.

Not sure how to go about spoofing so will look around this site as im sure it will tell me somewhere.

Thanks.
