Hi all ! My first post so please be nice !!
I am newish to flashing but have done a few . My thing is that I update the console prior to flash , after the flash if the original hard drive (which i applied the update to ) is not attached then I get the system update required . Now am I right in assuming that obviously the update saves to hard drive and not the disc drive then ?
Only what I dont get is that before I got into this I sent my disc drive only away to get flashed ( which I had to update before sending away ).This would then mean that if a security related update came out I would have to send the whole console with a hard drive back for him to revert to stock ,update and then flash ? And not just the disc drive as I originally did as he would need it all to update the console and hard drive combined ?/
Sorry if it seems a stupid question but am I doing something wrong or is that supposed to be like that ??

the hdd only holds the avatar and kinect data part of any system update, therefor,if hdd isnt connected, the full updates not there.

Thanks ! So I am right in assuming then that the hard drive would basically have to stay "tied" to the console it was flashed with ?
Hence if no hdd or a different hdd attached thatis why it is asking for update as it is an incomplete update ?

It is asking you to update again because the system can't find the correct update data.

You should keep the HDD attached.

the hdd is not tied to the console in any way.however,if you took lets say the 16203 update, and put it on a system that only has 16202,your avatars and kinect will not work correctly until u either run the 16202 update,or update it to 16203

Okay thanks ! I now do it myself, but for instance if I couldnt - in my first question then , when I sent my first disc drive away blah blah . If I wanted that to be now updated to 16203 dash then he would have to have the whole console and a hdd to flash it ? not just the disc drive as I originally did
I know some updates are only minor and do not security type ones but would not risk it so I always revert to stock first no matter just for peace of mind lol
Thanks All again and putting up with a nooby type question !!

So if I put a clean fresh formatted hdd to my flashed console why does it ask for system update ?
If I then put the hdd that I used to do the flash update with it does not ask for the system update ? nofeloniesyet says that avatar and kinect are stored on hdd ,so hence when I swap drives it then asks for the system update ( which kinda makes sense )
Not trying to upset the apple cart , I just I need to clarify that am I correct in saying I cannot attach a different hdd to my flashed console without it saying system update required ( unless it was a hdd with the latest dash/update already on it ? )

Yes, if you don't have update data on the hdd, it will ask for an update. But isn't that common sense? I don't see the disconnect here.

Yes it is common sense !! I know it would ask for update as its got nothing on it even im not that stupid ( although i did just post it lol !!)?
So therefore you could only use a hdd which has basically updated to the same standard as which is on the console ?
Hope im making sense ??

But if I put a new hdd onto console it will ask for system update . As the console is flashed , if I then went ahead with the update wouldnt I then have the possbility of being flagged/ banned ?

in the case of that situation,it will bypass the rest of the update and only install the avatar/kinect data,so its fine,we do the same on rgh units.
