Flashed System needs repair

High, just had a quick question I was hoping you guys could help me out with. If you've already opened your box/flashed your drive, and for whatever reason it stops working.. can you still send it to M$ to be fixed? I know that your warranty will be void by opening the box, thats why I won't be purchasing a warranty. But will they still repair it? If not, are there any other alternatives to get it fixed?(I'm thinking probably not) Also, as I understand it, there's no gaurantee when you send it in that you'll get your own system back. Then again that might only apply to systems still under warranty. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, what does registering your system do? Any advantages to it? Thanks!

i had a old system that i had opened and they repaired it. had a GPU error, sent me a brand new one back. But i cant confirm that it will work.(mine was one of the first systems that they admitted had problems) so i paid 129.99 to get if fixed then about a month later they refunded me.
