hello, i am wanting to flash my 360 to play backed up games but i also want to play on live so i want to be able to unflash it too.

i heard theres chips out there where you can tell it to use the flashed firmware or the real one, but i live in the uk and nobodys willing to help me, as i would need sombody to install it for me, so does anybody know anything about this?

or

would it be easier for me just to flash my cd drive then unflash it when i wanted to play on live? from looking at how you flash it, it seems like alot of effort to keep flashing and unflashing.

what should i do?

You can also add another chip to your drive and run 2 different firmwares...one chip has the stock fw for going on Live with originals and the other chip has the hacked fw for playing backups offline. You install a switch to determine which one to use when booting up. There's a tutorial on doing this in the 360mods Tutorials section but it requires soldering so you definitely might wanna pay someone to do it if you decide to try it.

i dont think i will be doing it now as the chip can be detected, well so he says.

"Personally I wouldnt do that as Ive read that what ever M$ do to catch you playing backups can also run offline like they put some sort of programme on your 360 and when you connect back to live it reports back.

That being said currently I dont believe the i-xtreme firmware is tracable (it acts as if the backups are original) if you are so worried about being banned you should think twice about it as I got banned with an earlier fw which was thought to be 'safe'. And I miss live so much, Im planning on getting back on live soon tho.

What dvd drive do you have in your 360? I can only do hitachis as Ive got the xecuter x360 usb kit.

cheers"

this is a shame, i couldent live without live ether

Heh I couldnt Live without LIVE either but on the old original xbox sure no prob since there was Xlink Kai for online gaming.. There is for the 360 too but still there's the 30ms ping limit bug... Plus all the great features we'd miss out on LIVE if we were banned. I think the ixtreme is solid and will be for a good period of time but it's just a matter of time when M$ pulls out a bag of tricks and gets them all iXtreme supplied DVD Drives banned or Bricked! lol Currently I don't have a 360 lol traded it for a 88' Prelude.. I had a Hitach 78FK & I'm about to get a Samsung MS25 in to flash... Good thing I still got my RLODe'd 360 so I can flash the ms25 with it powerin up that DVD Drive ;)

OK what I was talking about is not a mod chip, it's the SST chip on the DVD drive itself. There's already one there, you're simply stacking a second one on top. There's no way in the world that they could detect that because you're not changing anything, you're just adding another chip which is identical to the one that's already on the drive and then the switch that you install determines which one gets used and the other one has no power to it. Here's the tutorial explaining it:

You just need someone with good soldering skills, I'm sure a local electronics repair shop could do it for you. Just show them the tutorial above because it has the schematics for everything that you need them to do. You can request a chip sample from the manufacturer and they'll actually send you the chip you need for free, I'll PM you the link and part # for that.
