Hey guys, I want to flash my firmware so I can play backups. I have read the guide to flashing my firmware, but my computer is fairly old and I do not have any SATA plug on my motherboard so I guess I am going to buy a VIA Sata card. I was looking at this page and noticed there was a VIA VT 6421L PCI SATA Card and a
VIA VT 6421A PCI SATA Card. The VIA VT 6421L PCI SATA Card said it is best for the Samsung drive and it can "bad flash" and I was wondering what is "bad flash" the VIA VT 6421A PCI SATA Card said its better if you use Xtreme Boot Maker. I have a Hitachi drive and was wondering which is better for my system. As I was reading the guide to flashing the firmware I did not seem to see anything about Xtreme Boot Maker. Thanks for the help guys.

The kit that cofree has posted is a good piece of kit, but very expensive for what it is.

You could easily do the same with one of these cheap USB to SATA cables from somewhere like ebay:

USB to SATA cable

But as you pointed out, you could spend a similar amount and just buy the VIA SATA card. That way, you could flash your Hitachi, BUT if ever you got a different console with a Samsung, you could flash that too with the same hardware.
