I good question was PMed to me on these forums:

how do you (after booting off the backup flash) flash the original flash and not the backup?

I...don't...know... Go ahead and try to flame me about this topic. I'm on these forums everyday (yea I have no life) and I've yet to see this discussed.

the way you worded your question is confusing... if you mean flash the main (2MB) rom on first install then thats what is happening, it's flasing the main (2MB) rom...

the backup (256K) rom with Flashbios 3.0 is still there.. turn on the xbox with power and eject held and it boots to it...

if you meant something else, then i'm sorry...

either with a cd/dvd with the bios, a bios already on the xbox hdd or via a web browser on a pc via a network connection...

I think you are flashing the main bios when your in the backup...

I was under the impression the backup can't be overwritten...

but I could be wrong.

I would presume that you are flashing just the bank that the switches are set to. I think the only way to flash the backup is in x3 config live.

i'm pretty sure if you boot from the backup you can flash the main 2mg portion of the chip by simply switch the dip switch to ex on on off off and then sticking in a bios cd

Is it TRUE that you cannot overwrite the backup BIOS?

I just flashed banks my X3 with the build 1859 and the video display no longer works. I have sound when the X3 boots, but I have no video. After it boots the hard drive led flashes continuously. I think I may need to reflash it, but I don't want to risk overwriting my backup flash.

I've been working with PCs for many years, but I'm a noob to XBox modding. I'm having fun with it so far! :?

Menkey, can you clarify? Did you mean that I can overwrite the backup bios or that I can reflash my bios without overwriting the backup bios. If I'm going to run the risk of overwriting my backup bios, can you point me to somewhere that I can read up on flashing the X3. I went to http://teamxecuter.com/flashbios but the page doesn't load (I just get a browser error 404).

Let me clarify what I'm doing. I'm flashing the BIOS via HTTP. If I load the Backup BIOS, connect to the Xbox from the web browser on my PC, and upload the new BIOS, will it overwrite the backup BIOS or will it install the BIOS into the banks that I have turn on on the X3 Bank Selector?

Is my hitachi 47D bricked ?

After finally successfully flashing my lite-on
I thought I'd go back and try to flash an old Hitachi 47D.

I have my via chipset uninstalled showing up as RAID controller and portio32 installed.

I connected it up with my xtractor and opened jungleflasher. I don't have usb2 and I'm running a via chipset so don't think I can successfully use that.
I downloaded the latest slax disc and tried then. Booted into slax and it goes to spinning up disc and then continues on it's own. So I thought it was in modeB. But the drive just wouldnt eject!
No matter what I do after using the slax I can't get my computer to recognise my drive or get the drive to eject.

I then tride using the modeB.exe file .. entered the correct code in dos ModeB B800 etc... it said done!
but it still wouldn't eject or get recognised by the computer.

I then decided to open the xtractor program and connect to my sata port that way. In here I'm able to see my drive and get it to open and close but when I click modeB it doesn't seem to go into ModeB or become recognised by windows.

I then decided to go back in jungleflasher and here it recognised my drive and it will open and eject through there but still won't get recognised by windows or appear to go into ModeB.

I then decided to hook up through the xbox360 power and when I do this and try any of the above steps the drive just isn't recognised at all and will not eject. It will show spinning up disc in slax but because it won't eject I can't get any further and a manual eject doesn't make it continue either.

Does anyone have any ideas at all of what to try next please..

Re: Is my hitachi 47D bricked ?

Put drive in most primary sata port , should be port 0 . Put your os drive on port 1 .
In jungleflasher check win API and search for your drive in Port properties window .
Press mode B it should say done . Then try dump drive .

Re: Is my hitachi 47D bricked ?

I have serial port 5 and 6 only.
It's definitely through 5 as that's what I did the lite-on with
and its through my VIA at the back b800

win API is not an option for me in jungleflasher I've never been able to understand that
