Flashing Orange - stops if I try another X3 sitting here.

v1.0 xbox. Xecuter3 Bios 1959. Flashbios 3.0.1.

I flashed this mod on a different xbox...

When I put it in, the xbox light on the front flashes orange (or amber or yellow, kinda color blind).

If I take the mod out, and put it another one I have running the same versions, everything is fine.

It always flashes... and I can't put a game in the DVD drive. If I do, the whole system hangs.

Again, if I just swap the mod chip with another, everything works fine.

Q: Is it my bios on this mod, or is the mod itself faulty somehow?

Re: Flashing Orange - stops if I try another X3 sitting here

My friend is having a very similar problem. His box boots green and then starts flashing that orange/yellow color and wont let him open the cd drive. He hasn't flashed the bios yet though. I am guessing all you need is to reflash the bios. Hopefully someone else will drop in and give us both an answer, but in the meantime, try reflashing the bios; I highly doubt the mod is bad.

sounds like it maybe an overheating problem. check to see if your fan is running. sometimes ppl forget to plug in the fan connector. i'm not say that is what you did, but couldn't hurt to look at it.

Yeah, I read that a few times too when searching out my problem. Fan is connected and working (checked to ensure it is spinning too).

The flashing starts immediately after pressing the power button. If I hold it in to disable the mod, the light is green.

I think tonight I might boot into the backup bios and try and flash the second 1mb bank with the EvoM8 bios or something...

Can you load from the backup BIOS? See if that takes the flashing away. Then you know its a bios problem. Also can you load the original MS bios?

I can boot into the backup bios and it goes solid green like it should. I can disable the mod and boot into the MS dash no problem.

Also, I can swap this X3 with another X3 and I have NO abnormal problems. Put this X3 back in and the light flashes orange.

I've tried that a few times. Should I try the erase program too?

Still no progress on this. The unit continues to flash orange.

Xecuter, should I return the chip to modchip.ca for an exchange?

did you hotswap with a working one ?

just boot to X3CL with a working X3 and then hotswap with faulty one and flash X3 1959 to banks 1234

Ok, just to be absolutely clear... hotswap.... as in, with the system powered on swap the X3 boards...

Interesting. I didn't know they were hot swappable.

I'll give that a shot.

Re: Flashing Orange - stops if I try another X3 sitting here

Well, I hotswapped and reflashed and it didn't work... BUT.... after getting into X3 CL, I noticed there was a "reset X3 to defaults"... I selected that, it rebooted and my light is now green.

Thank you!

Re: Flashing Orange - stops if I try another X3 sitting here

im having a similar problem, i put in an X3 about 2 moths ago(1.6, not 1.6b!) i couldnt get it working, quite possibly a flash problem but whatever, when i tried to power on, wouldnt, so i replaced the standby transistor, and took the chip out, worked fine. didnt have a modchip, but hell the xbox worked, i was happy, until a couple nights ago, when i was playin halo 2 and the sound went out then the video started going so i turned it off then i turned it back on, but it didnt turn on, at all, looked like a transistor problem again, so i opened it up, and sure enough, one of the posts on the transistor had come unsoldered, so i soldered it back on, but i think in the process i crossed two of the posts, tryed to turn on, wouldnt work, so i took it out and tried another, finally got it gettin the constant 3.25 volts through it, and was happy, until i plugged it back in, i turned my xbox on, i get one green for half a second then i get a flashing orange, and then it shuts off, ive checked various points on the mother board, everything seems to be working fine, except that transistor seems to heat up to like 50,000 degrees(a bit of sarcasim, but extremelly hot, to where it could possibly burn you) any ideas? possibly fried the bios on the flash chip, any help would be great guys, im really draggin on ideas, thanks.
