I installed the X3 and everything to my knowledge is working correctly. And yes I am a noob. I looked at the tut for the flashing the x3 with FlashBIOS and it says to turn the switches to the 1056k mode.

The problem that I have I tried to flash it with M8 bios v1.6 since my xbox is v1.6 but when do a quick power (blue light) the system FRAGS. (on - off - on - off - on - no video) and when I do a long power (red) the system works great. I can still get to the backup and tried to flash it again but no luck.

Do I have to use a 1056k BIOS in order to flash it to the 1mb bank or can I use the 256k BIOS?

Any help would be greatly appreaciated!! This was a gift from my girlfriend and if I dont get it right, shes going to kill me. Thanks.

How large is the file size of your M8 bios? i never got M8 myself. I reccommend getting the X3 bios 3108, or 3029.

If the M8 bios is 256K than use a 256K bank. If the bios is 1024K (1Mb) then use a 1Mb bank

Bank locations are posted by executer on one of the stickies.

I think you NEED to read the above sticky for the switch settings, and even MORE important read the TOP sticky!

We don't even know if you are using the right switch settings.

If you're asking, the M8 bios IS 256K, but something I haven't heard you mention whether or not you are using the "plus bioses" ie, X3_3108v16plus.bin,...or the M8plus.bin bios, but I see that you claim to have a 1.6 Xbox so you'll NEED to use them.

(I imagine that is the possible mistake right now too.)

Thanks for the info

Sorry for the confusion there I just assumed that since I mentioned that I used the tuts that the switch settings were correct, my fault. By the way there on - on - off - off for the 1st 1mb bank I believe.

See I guess the thing that is confusing me is the fact that in the tuts it says to use the 1mb bank not to use the bank for your size BIOS. I will try to use the 3029 or the other BIOS you mentioned, thanks again.

When I get real good at this I will promise to return the favor to other young noobies.

Yeah The tut's say use a 1Mb bank coz they were designed for flashing the X3 bios, which i'm pretty sure it says to use (not 100% sure havn't read it in a little while)
if your bios is 256K change the bank and it'll work

Hey Thanks Rookio

Yea that worked when I switched the switch to on - on - on - on. Thanks you saved me big time. I will still go ahead and re flash it with one of the other BIOS that you mentioned, also any good dashboard that you think are good.

Trust us, if for some reason the X3 Bios isn't working for you, OR you just WANT to use the EvoX bios, ...DONT!

The X3 Bios has MANY more features, I know coz I couldn't get my X3 Bios to work at first, and when I used the EvoX Bios, the EvoX DASHBOARD had alot of features greyed out and unusable. Once I got the X3 Bios running I had FULL access though.

So IF the reson you were going to use the M8 Bios was because you THOUGHT the EvoX dashboard required it, that is incorrect.

BUT if the reason you were trying to use the M8 bios was because the X3 bios wasn't working, give us as much info as you can and let us help you get it running.

Yea, well I use the Slayer Ed., so it's on there just a few clicks down.

That's how I watched the entire series of Full Metal Alchemist with 2 DVDs in the last couple days ;-)

Forgive Me

Please forgive my ignorance in this subject as I have yet to read the tut for dashboard installation or anything else pertaining dashboards. To tell you the truth I dont even know if you need one or not, so any information would be very helpful.

Also this quote doesnt really make that much sense to me, if you could please elabrate some more.

"Trust us, if for some reason the X3 Bios isn't working for you, OR you just WANT to use the EvoX bios, ...DONT!

Is the X3 BIOS the BIOS that comes pre flashed on the chip?

In the future (prob tomorrow) I will reflash with another BIOS that rookio recommended. The other one works fine I think but doesnt do anything, is that where the dashboard comes in. I dont even know what a dashboard is made for of what it does, how sad is that.

I would like to thank everyone that has responed to my question, I will get this eventually.

The dashboard is what lets you actually take advantage of the chip's ability. (It runs the apps)

If you don't know how to install dashboards/have no clue, I suggest that AFTER you read up on the info, that you use an auto-installer disc. (I prefer Slayers 2.6 FINAL found in the usual places)

The X3 3108 Bios is the most powerful that you can use, and is a 1MB bios.

You MUST use a dashboard to be fully useful. (Otherwise your chip will boot the M$ dashboard which is restricted.)

I suggest checking out www.xbox-scene.com for anything relating to applications/dashboards, etc.
