what
I have unlock both flash protections and am still getting the unknown flash error. I have bank 1 and 2 selected. I tried it once with all banks selected and the process seems to have started but it kind froze. So I restarted my box with all banks selected. I got the red/green flashin idicating that no bios could be found. so i turned off bank one and it took em back to the 'FlashBIOS 3.0.0' menu. I kept trying different ways to flash the BIOS but i keep gettin Unknown Flash. What do i have to do?

if the switches are set to on, on, off, off, off and the switch on the chip is to the left as the info says. It seems like it might be a corrupt bios tryy downloading the bios again. just a thought.

Good luck.

Still burning coasters on my laptop

Hi:

Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to use my brand new Dell laptop to burn Xbox 360 game copies. The laptop should be able to burn double-layered DVDs according to the specs. Just for the record I've made a bunch of previous copies of 360 games on my desktop and they all worked just fine. I also have the latest iXtreme 1.61 firmware on my Xbox drive. To burn those DVD's I'm using the latest version of ImgBurn that I've downloaded off their web site yesterday.

Here's the last example. I was burning the Gears of War 2 from the ISO file (the same ISO file that I've already used to make a fully functional copy a year ago).

There's also a .dvd file that I double click to open up in the ImgBurn. It's contents are as follows:
LayerBreak=1913760
x360-gears-of-war-2.iso
As before I used the double layered Verbatim DVD blank and burned @ x1 speed. I didn't use the laptop for the time that it took to burn this DVD.

When the disc was ready I tried it in my Xbox 360 and the game started, I saw the Epic logo that played for about a second or two and then distorted (or got pixelated) and the game froze... and I had to restart the console. I tried it about three times and the same thing happened. Just FYI my previous copy of the same game starts just fine.

What could be causing my brand new laptop to burn these duds?

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

i've always found that laptop drives are awful at burning discs

when i used my laptop, i could even see a difference in the way they were burnt by analyzing the bottom of the discs

i would advise you to get an external burner, or just use your desktop

i've not found a good way of getting good copies with a laptop after a year and several laptops

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

Thanks a lot! That explains it.

Do you know if it's possible to somehow clean the internal DVD drive in my desktop because it started to give me bad burns (it's maybe 2-3 years old now)?

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

first of all, i would try to elevate (imgburn?, the program you use) the process in the task manager and not use any other programs while burning (especially itunes haha)

next, i do recall seeing laser cleaning discs somewhere (it was a cd with little brushes glued to the bottom

but if you don't want to spend money, just take apart your dvd drive and swab it a bit
you obviously can take stuff apart (you've done a 360)

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

Burn at a faster speed. When I first started burning them on my laptop all the tutorials I read was to burn it at 1x. However, every time I did that and I played the game, almost everytime it went to a cut scene I got an unreadable error.

What I did was simply burn it at a quicker speed (4x to be exact) and haven't had a problem since.

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

best bet is making sure all unnecessary processes are not running...especially internet...and honestly, once you start the burn process do not even touch the computer until its done...also, do not burn off an external hard drive...make sure you copy the file/s you are burning to the desktop...the optimum speed to burn games seems to be 2.4x...although some drives (like my desktop samsung drive) do not support 2.4x, only 4x and higher...i have not had any problems at 4x on my desktop, but my laptop seems to struggle at that speed.

good luck

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

Thank you, again. As you can see I've been doing it all wrong :) Two questions though.

1. Do you have to do anything with the antivirus program. I have AVG Free?

2. What I also observed is the following. I haven't tested it yet because it takes lots of time, but I'm curious to hear your input. I have this second internal HDD that I used Windows Encrypting File System (EFS) on and I was trying to burn the back up off of that disc. Could that cause an issue as well?

Re: Still burning coasters on my laptop

those are actually both issues....first off just get rid of AVG all together, its garbage, get malware bytes anti-malware...but do no run it while you are trying to burn a game....

same with that hard drive...just copy whatever you are trying to burn to your desktop...

that should clear up your problems, it did for me...
