Ok, so i m wanting to flash my dvd drive, im using a laptop but i have a PCMCIA port so i can use a sata card there, can't I?

Will i need to buy the CK3, or can i power my drive just from the xbox? I am wanting to write the 0800 firmware to it first, then rip games, is it possible to just have the power going to the xbox 360 dvd power slot and then the sata going to my laptop sata card?

I looked at the reviews of it, and most of them were for xbox flashing and they said it worked, so hopefully it will, do you know the answer to my power question?

right near the beach :)
Yup, just make sure you have your dvd key before you flash to 0800, then just flash back to LT When you're done. Just a thought, a phat liteon is like $35. A dedicated ripping drive is nice to have :)

Using the xbox to power the drive works, but the xbox will flag that the data isnt hooked up, and you then run a higher risk of getting banned from xbox live. the only way to remove the flags is to create a new retail image in j-runner, which requires a coolrunner, and a nand reader soldered to the motherboard. Much safer to use the x360usbpro v2.

This also assumes you haven't connected to live before clearing the flags. They are definitely logged server side.

But if im not connected to live, they surely couldnt be able to find out what i was doing? like be disconnected to power the drive to flash and rip and stuff, then just connect back to live when the xbox has been re assembled?

Then your Xbox tells ms you powered it on without the drive connected. These are logged, regardless of online status, then synced at the soonest opportunity

ive connected to xbox live without a disk drive many times, nothing has ever happened, anyway, its an old xbox ill be using, so i dont really mind.
That doesn't change the fact that it is logged. No one said it was a ban worthy offense. It is simply less than optimal.

rmsryno, it is also very simple to build your own power cable that can be powered from your pc's molex. You could try this is you decide you do not want to use the xbox as the power source.

I'm sure you could, depending on the port you use. As long as you can pick up 12v and 5v you can do it. Schematic is largely available on internet. Google it - DIY xbox dvd power cable.

Provided you're not flashing any Hitachi v79 drives, you only need 5v which you can get from a USB port. TX make USB to Molex cables, or you can make your own.

http://www.xconsoles.com/products/molex-power-supply.html $15
http://www.xconsoles.com/products/xecuter-ck3-mini.html -----$13

At the very least you should grab theese. The top is out of stock but you can find an alternative. I would also Grab http://www.xconsoles.com/products/xecuter-ck3-mini.html ---$35

Thats $63 for a flashing and ripping solution. Keep in mine you will have to flash the drive twice for each dash update. Once to stock then back to LT. If you plan on doing more than one keep it in mind. Also might need http://www.xconsoles.com/products/xecuter-ck3-probe-3.html depending on the drive.
