alright well hes thinking about getting the 78fk drive from etech so i think im just gonna plug that in and take out the 79 so i can flash that. if i just plug the 78 in place of the 79, it would work right?

and im guessing this is the right drive with rom 78

It wont work without the DVD key from your original drive.
You cant just swap drives from 360 to another, it wont play any games at all, original or otherwise.

I am trying to find out if you can even get the key off a 79 but it dosnt look like it is possible without a mod of some type.

How hard is the soldering for the chip ?? Comparable to modding a Ps2, better or worse ? Obviously number of wires is way less but im interested in how small or close the points are ? The diagram ive seen didnt show the points on the Dvddrom.

I've got a Passkey 79 and the soldering on it is way smaller than a Wii or PS2.

Here is a link to the site that developed it (run by C4EVA) . The bottom picture is a link to a PDF to install the chip. 1 ribbon cable header and 1 wire.

I already did mine with the passkey. It not worked with the ribbon, is hard to solder properly in the angle that it fits. I soldered all wires to the corresponded points. I flashed it and it working great.

I fitted the 79 pass key and it isn't a job for beginners.

The easiest way to install the ribbon is to cut the side off the header before you solder it in place. This allows you to align the header up correctly which makes soldering that much easier.

The 79 passkey is to get the drive into mode B. Once the drive was flashed and playing backups i just removed the ribbon cable from the passkey and taped it inside the drive.

The drive is now really sweet and playing my backups on XBL via iXtreme 1.2 rev 2.
