HI,

I am attempting to install an xecutor 2.3b pro into my xbox. I have downloaded and read and understood the tutorial on this site and i understand what is expected.

The part i dont understand is at the end of the tutorial is a section of lots of dip switch settings with different kbs and 1mg!

What do all these mean and what will they do to my xbox? ie: will different dip switch settings cause my xbox to do someting different or will i see no difference on any of the settings in which case what would be the best setting.

Then it goes onto flashing the bios?

Ive tried to learn about bios on my home pc but ive read that if you do it wrong you can seriously damage your pc. Can you explain in simple terms what flashing the bios means and is it safe enough to do on the xbox before i go in head first and realise ive F*@Ked up!!!

thanks for your time

Which tutorial are you referring to? Can you paste the link?

The different DIP switches are used to select different "banks" of the BIOS, and on the 2.3b one of them also controls flash protection. You can see a listing of bank selections at this link - http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips/x-ecuter2_pro_switches.html

The chip has 1MB of memory and you can have any combination of BIOSes that add up to 1MB. 4 BIOSes that are 256KB, 2 that are 512KB, one that is 512KB and 2 that are 256KB, etc. Check out the X2 BIOS Manager (X2BM) tutorial to learn how to create these collections. (If you don't follow this, it's computer math. 1MB=1024KB. So 512KB+512KB=1024KB or 1MB.)

On your Xbox playing with a modchip BIOS is not exactly the same as doing so with the BIOS on a PC. On the PC you have one BIOS... goof that and the PC may not boot. On the Xbox you generally are playing around with the BIOS on the modchip and not touching the BIOS that is factory installed on the Xbox motherboard. (It is possible to modify the Xbox on-board BIOS, but you don't need to worry about it. I believe this is generally only done if you are not installing a modchip but are still hacking the Xbox.) Plus, you've got a 2.3B Pro. If you do goof something on the modchip BIOS you can attach it to your PC and re-flash.

Did I clear anything up?

Also this sounds like more of a modchip question rather than a BIOS question, although your ultimate goal may be to get the X2CL BIOS on the chip. This should probably be moved to the X2.x Pro forum.
