I have done 100's of Phat Drives but I'm working on my 1st Slim Drive and its Liteon DG-16D4S FW 0225 with from the stuff I've researched its a locked drive.

I looked at the Sputnik 360 Switch and Probe and the Unlocked PCB and I feel like a Noob once again.

I have some questions

1) I hooked up the drive to jungle flasher and it recognized it but the slim key failed. Is there a spear trick I need to do or a hack to retrieve the key?

2) Is it better to get the unlocked PCB or use the Sputnik 360 Switch?

3) Do the Sputnik things really unlock the drive to flash it?

These Slims are going to get the best of me, I'm almost about to quit flashing xbox's period.

Well any tips on these new drives are appreciated, thanks

Well the easiest method is the replacement PCB. However, I prefer the sputnik switch. Its $8 and really simple to do. You need to find out if your drive is MXIC or Winbond. Jungleflasher tut will help you sort that out. If its MXIC its pretty much your preference, but if you can solder and follow directions, you can do the sputnik switch. Ive done probably 20 of them so far with no issues. Yes the sputnik switch and probe will unlock your drive. What are you using to connect the drive to your computer? SATA? The reason I ask is because SATA chipsets tend to not wat to work with Slim drives. They dont slimkey so everyone recommends the x360usb pro (if you dont have one already) Depending on how you connect the drive to your computer, you can still get the keys off of your drive without unlocking it. Just open mtk flash tab, intro /device id, click read, save the files, then click outro a few times to ensure it takes your drive out of vendor mode. Hope Ive answered some of your questions, I know its alot to take in at once lol.

I'm gonna order a few of the switches and a probe, I just can't see wasting $70 for a new PCB if i can just unlock it myself. Cause after I do this one successfully i got like 20 more to do. Thanks for the info

if your SATA chipset cannot slimkey, then i wouldn't recommend trying to flash slim drives
as stated above, x360usb is the perfect chipset for slims (works 100%)

however, some onboards work just fine (for example, my sb700 works great, but only if i use the primary port for flashing)

I hook up all the 360 drives directly thru sata to the mobo on a PC, out of the hundreds of drives i have flashed i have not yet ran into an issue. the X360USB seems like a waste of $60 for me since I've done so many successfully without it.

Well moving into slims, the sata chipsets dont work with them. (99% of them anyway.) If you're going to be working on slim drives the x360usb pro is the way to go man.

ok I got the X360 pro and the unlock kit and i know i have it all installed correctly and i have in stalled the new driver for the X360 pro, I have extracted the key but I cant get to the point to write the CFW. It started writting once and then it gets to the reading flash and fails

Any ideas?

That depends on what type of drive you have. Look and see HERE If you have a winbond or MXIC drive. If it's MXIC all you need is the sputnik switch. OR if you prefer you can do the probe. But you dont need both. I prefer the switch since its one and done. However if you are unlucky and have the winbond chipset you can do the kamikaze ( difficult and risky) or the replacement PCB (easiest and most expensive route)
