Flashing via HTTP, Cannot find server.

Finally after a nightmarish install of my X3 CE I have it up and running properly, I already had the 2914 BIOS on my laptop, and my crossover cable at ready. I enabled network flashing, blah blah it fell back to 192.168.0.99, with the Xbox and Computer connected in Internet Explorer I typed "http://192.168.0.99" and it says it cannot find server, I just tried it again on my PC and it won't work either, if it helps I installed the X3 CE on a v1.0 'box using a wire installation, both the laptop and PC are running windows XP, and I am 100% posative that i'm using a crossover cable, I bought it from Radio Shack a few days ago and it says CROSSOVER in big letters.
any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

do you have your PC configured in the same subnet???

u need your pc configured with a static address of 192.168.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

oh, I thought you only needed to do that with a patch cable -> router -> patch cable set up, could you tell me how I could set up my network like that?

assuming M$ xp..click start /control panel/network connections.

right click Local area network and select properties..
double click on internet protocol (TCPIP) and select use the following ip address.

enter ip address 192.168.0.1
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway..doesnt really matter but u can set this to 192.168.0.100

DNS settings not important for this..

ok it all and restart if prompted

. use a crossover cable
2. goto your network connections
3. right click on your ethernet card (or whatever you hooked crosover cable2
4. select properties
5. select internet protocall (tcp/ip)
6. click properties
7. select use the following ip address
8. use following setting:
ip address: 192.168.0.20
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.100.1
