Hey all :)

I have been searching through the internet to find out whether or not flashing your xbox using the power from the Xbox is safe or not.

Since noone seems to have a clear answer, I would like to know if someone has experienced being banned by doing it this way.

As of now, I have flashed mine twice using power from the Xbox, and it doesn't seem like I have been banned, as my Xval is still clean...

I have heard it is being logged by the Xbox...

Thank you in advance

I haven't personally had a ban because of that, but then again - I never used the xbox to power the drive - it is widely thought that the console flags a "boot with no drive" error.
also, it's not good for your machine if u are plugging/unplugging all the time

If you power on xox without sata cable you'll get a flag. Maybe it can take longer to ban but since you already did it, you can continue.

I very much doubt that if you got banned for this method that you would ever really know if it was in fact the reason (i.e. M$ WILL NOT tell you the reason!)

With that said TX advise you to use alternative methods of powering the console during flashing process as you COULD get flagged and potentially banned!

Also XVAL is considered UNRELIABLE as M$ COULD have other means of flagging your console :(

No one recommends flashing their drives with the 360 mobo.

The main reason is because of the damage implications, if something goes wrong.

As to banning. Most people agree that you could get flagged for a ban, as with most technology now, most systems, run a startup procedure to ensure all items are working correctly and are where they should be.

If not an error is logged, or the machine will not boot up.

It is as of yet, unproven. But better safe than sorry i say. For the price of a ck3 lite.

Sure, you can use it.. I never had, nor had I heard of a direct ban resulting in using it..but that's not to say it cannot happen. More importantly you run the risk of screwing something up if the console were to shut off during a dump or flash, play it safe and get ck3 lite or pro.. or the new ck3i/mini when it releases...either way it's your call..

Thank you for such fast replies :)

I will probably look into getting one of these small CK3 devices, just to be on the safe side then.

And thank you once again :)

Why even risk getting flagged or even losing power during a flash or dump, for the ittle it costs for ck3 lite or pro or even a molex external power supply adapter. Its beyond me

Was that ever categorically proven?

I have always used CK's myself and have done since the original Xecuter one was launched back in 2006 but that is more for the safety aspect of things than anything else. I don't think that simply disconnecting the data cable from the drive would be illegal though although admittedly even opening the console without approval is a violation of MS ToS.

 I just flashed my drive on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I didn't read up on it more here first. The original "guide" of types that I read suggested that use of the xbox's power cable was normal. This is, subsequently the method I used to flash mine. Now I'm quite concerned.

Is this more of a "just in case" type of thing, or is there a pretty good chance I'll be banned when I next go online?

I obviously understand that this type of thing involves risks, but I hate to think I shot myself in the foot immediately.

Your console will have been flagged but as far as I am aware nobody has ever been banned from it. Dont worry about it.
