Flashing X3CE on v1.6b

Hi all,
I recently bought an x3ce and fitted it onto my v1.6b xbox and it boots fine but then goes to the flashbios screen. I have burned a cd-rw of the x3 3029 bios.bin file along with a 100mb dummy.bin file. But when i put the disc in when it prompts me to, it just says 'No bios update found, halting!'. I think this is because the pre-installed flashbios might not be compatible with my 1.6b box. What version is pre-flashed onto these chips? Isnt the 3.01 uncompatible with the 1.6b but the 3.03 compatible? How do i find out version number?

Please help, i'm stuck with a blank chip!!

Oh forgot to mention, if you just quickly hit the power button it boots to the flashbios screen but if you hold it just a little bit longer, it boots to the ms dash.
Also, i have the evox 3935 dash pre-installed on my hard drive from my last chip so i will want to boot to that. I know xbtool can change boot sequence, but it gives some error about a kernel when i try to load the x3 3029 bios.bin file.

Again, please help! And thanks in advance!!

Okay, read the tutorials. They are written by the experts. If they don't clear things up, read them again. If you're still not sure, read the stickies. If that doesn't solve your problems, search the forums, twice. If, after all that, you're still stuck, post a thread.

One last tip, you know those numbers on your flash bios screen? The ones right after the words "FlashBios"? Read those too.

since you have X3CE your flashbios 3.0.3 should be preloaded on banks 5678 (set switches to off on off off off). Once successfully flashed hacked X3 bios, I would suggest to go ahead and update your backup bios to flashbios 3.0.3 just in case you ever need to reflash again.

BTW, since you have v1.6b xbox, you need to use X3 3029 v16plus.bin file. You will also need to rename it to bios.bin prior to burning.

Hi,
Them bank settings will get me to flashbios 3.03 but it still says 'no bios update found halting!' when i put my disc in?!?

Hang on, does nero burn discs in alphabetical order? if so, i'll need to rename dummy.bin to adummy.bin or something like that wont i?

I see countless posts with the same trouble with cd/dvd flash. The problem is it's pretty picky with media sometimes. Do you have your xbox connected to a router or have a crossover cable? I suggest to do http flash. It's pretty simple and once you have done one, you will kick yourself in the a** for not trying it sooner.

Let me know and I will help you with it.

The only time I've seen a bios flashed was with using the http flash option.

It's really easy to do.

Just search the boards for instructions...

I found this tut and i have followed it EXACTLY but still no luck!
It says:

CD-ROM Label: X3_BIOS
No BIOS Update Found... Halting!

Oh, and yes i have a crossover cable which is constantly connected to my pc and xbox and i DID have an ftp setup before i upgraded to the x3ce. Now, it just assigns any IP to the box when i click that option and it doesnt work because nothing comes up when i type the ftp address into my pc because it needs to have the box on before the pc to work, but the box needs the pc on to work!?!

I would use WebDrive but my trial has expired and i cant find a crack ;(

Also, i know that my box takes the type of cd-rw i am using.

I'm gonna try connecting my box hdd to my pc (after unlockin of course) and doing it that way....

first make sure your flash protection is off. Second, read my post above. Try http flash if you can.

dannybeckett, trust me on this one. First make sure you have a crossover cable connected to your PC and xbox. Second, make sure to have X3 3029 v16plus.bin in a folder on your PC. Third, on your PC, configure so that the PC ip is something like 192.168.0.X where X=1-254 except 99. Reboot your PC just to make sure.

On your xbox, set your X3 cp switches to off on off off off. Boot up your pc to flashbios 3.0.3. Your xbox will try to find an assigned ip but can't and will automatically gets 192.168.0.99 as it's ip.

Now, on your PC, open up Microsoft IE and type in : http://192.168.0.99. You should see flashbios screen. From there use browse button to direct to your X3 3029 v16plus.bin file. Your TV screen should start showing your X3 is flashing. You are then done.

Hmmm,
i cant get it to get the .99 ip but ive got .186 which now seems to work?!?
I will try to flash now...

YES! You're a star! The only thing i would change if possible would be the ability to flash it in firefox too (it just doesnt load the second page)

hey, glad you got it working. Now don't you think it's way easier than cd flash? No cd to waste neither. Anyway, yeah, firefox has problem b/c of the popup block. MS IE never fails.
