i just completed my x3 install on a 1.0 and boy i couldnt wait to plug it up.... to my dissapointment i was frag. so i kept turning it on and off on and off.... and to my surprise i got my blue x..... let me turn it off and see what happens red x with orange light on eject button, im unable to power it off, so i disconnect the power try a couple more times and still could not get my blue x back...i began reading in the forum how frag is due to several diffrent things,so i took xbox apart and power ed it up and i seen i had my blue x and blue leds.once i put the dvd drive back in i lost it again. this is when i noticed ide cable wich folds kind of under the dvd drive was pushing my x3 down causing the 5v post to make contact with the mobo, good thing i insulated,i used some red stuff looks like a straw or a coffe stirer and just touched my solder iron to it causing it to shrink.well apparently this was not enough insulation to keep my x3 running continuosly. so i spoke with an electrician on my boat and he hooked me up with some insulation tape.... not electrical tape insulation tape.
this stuff looks sort of like a bicycle tire patch in that it has color plastic on one side, neither side is sticky to the touch but when you fold it over and spinch together is sticks very well. so i put a small piece of this on the 5v post and powered th xbox up and blue x, i did this over and over. put it al back togethr and i must have powered this thing on and of at least a 100 times now, working like a charm.
may i strongly suggest if you are getting frag, before you try anthing else, any more sodering or desoldering, pick your self up some insulation tape from your local hardware store and apply it over the 5v post..... i hope that you will be as pleased and surprised i was with the results..
hope this helps someone!!!!!
