hello all, i am new to this so let me explain in all what happened and what i am needing help with.

first off i had my 360 drive replaced by a pc repair guy i go to all the time that told me he works on 360s as well, but come to find out he hasn't worked on them in awhile so he doesn't know about the dvd drive passkey, he scrapped my old drive, which i do not know what kind of drive it was and he didn't take the time to look and see what it was either, so now my system reads my games as DVDs and not games, so i am needing a bit of info about how to fix this, any suggestions will help as well but the only thing is i will not risk getting banned from live and i don't want a jtag or anything like that, first question is how can i find out what drive my system originally had in it and is it possible to flash the drive passkey to this new drive to get it to work and will jungle flasher or a similar software help with this, if so would someone care to walk me through it in a fine toothed comb detailed step by step if there's not a tutorial for this sort of thing.

btw the only info on my 360 i know about is that its a 2010 elite system, other then that i don't know but if its possible to find out i will and post updates to this post.

please, any help would be greatly appreciated, other then jtag or anything that would risk a ban from live.

thank you

To get your dvd-key you will need to RGH the system and decrypt your keyvault, from there you can rebuild your dvd-fw. I think it would be wise to get a pro to help you if you dont want to screw up, theres alot of steps invalved, alot of soldering and different tools needed.

Sounds like it may be a jasper.

He clearly doesnt know what hes doing if he just stuck a new drive in without flashing the key to it.

I would think your system may need a liteon DG16d2s.

If you have no keys you will need to recover the DVD key via xell. So rgh2 or rjtag.
If your not a confident solderer I would personally let someone do it for you.

Or take it back to so called 360 modder and demand him to do it lol

he only charged me 20 for the new 360 drive, he used one from another system, apparently he has worked on them but just not the newer ones, i did research for him and gave him all the info about the new dashboard and the dvd key pass and he said it was all new to him, i would ask him to fix it or replace the system but hes a good buddy of mine that works with me when my comps are needing to be fixed that i cannot do or have the way of fixing them so i just want to fix the issue, if needs be i will just try to save some money and send this one in with 100 bucks for a new one, i can't find anyone local that is a pro at working on 360s, the closest ones is north Knoxville and he charges 40 which at the moment i cannot afford, is it possible that only software like jungle flasher would recover the DVD key or anything like that?

thanks for all the answers guys, i guess there is just no cheap way around it, so i got a different question now, with software like jungle flasher or similar, would it be possible to run 360 games from a 1tb external HDD on my console? thats all i am wanting is to play my games and play them online, if i can run them like they were installed like my digital games i play, would that work and is it possible/cheaper to do?

Your best bet is to send your console to someone that knows what the heck they are doing and get it straightened out for you. With any luck, he replaced the drive with the correct model and all it will need is the key changed.

Tapatalk misspelled it. Knot me.
