yeah, i know that, but it wasnt locked with teamassembly. well, i guess i will try to desolder the EEPROM from the old board. or i could send it to a data retrieval place, but there is a chance i could be prosecuted for copyright infringement.
It's an expensive mistake, believe me, I know. But sending it to a data retrieval place is gonna be more expensive than just buying another drive. Unless you have data that there is no possible way to recover on there, it's just not worth it.
yeah, my condolences too... I almost lost a 160 gig too until I found an old EEPROM.bin kicking around.
The Lock stops ALL ATA functions (like format) until it's unlocked. It MUST be unlocked before you're going to be able to use it. and those data recovery places charge just as much to unlock a drive as it costs to buy a new one.
damn you microsoft! anyway, i hope my dad knows how to solder well enough to get the chip off and on. i know he can get it on fine, but getting it off is what i'm scared about.
Well good luck with that, but I am not sure how far you will get with it. I am sure, as everyone has stated, there is no way to unlock it without the info from eeprom. Keeps us updated on the transplant.
Well I have never had this problem, but it seem that first thing I do in the future is make sure I lock with configmagic. This way I know for sure the password is TEAMASSEMBLY
