Hi all

I know this is a noob question, but I've had sh**ty luck with HDD's and jtag's in the past and I want to know I'm doing it properly this time :cool2:

I have a glitch hacked slim on its way to me soon and I just bought a new WD 500GB drive to put into the slim drive caddy for internal use. I've formatted it to FAT32 using EASUS Partition Master so the slim will recognise it, and I plan to then just let the slim format it once I insert it into the console. Is this the correct setup? Or is there some other step I'm missing that will cause me issues?

I'm not worried about emulation or playing Xbox1 games btw, unless configuring the drive to use them will also help me with what I do want it for. TIA for any help.

No PC formatting is needed.

Put the HDD in the caddy and insert into the 360.

Go to settings/memory and format from there.

EDIT: Blakey got there first!

Thanks guys - I only formatted as the last time I tried to just put a drive into my phat jtag and format it from the NXE, it would only allow a partition of 16gb and wasn't recognised as an internal HDD. Then again, that could have been my crappy console...

Is formatting the HDD necessary ? Whats the best tool to convert to FAT32 from NTFS ?

I have a question: Do I only need to use WD Drives or can use any other manufacturer drive ?
Any that will technically fit...less then 9.5mm IIFC

Some larger tb drives are a bit fatter than smaller tb drives so may have issues getting it to fit in the slim hard drive enclosure - if you are using one?!

When you put it in your jtag xbox you can format it there in system settings > memory

Any Size drive will work in a modded 360, and brand doesn't matter. If you are running with a dual boot-able(Cygnos 360 for online play) then im not sure if you will have to switch it out for a stock drive, so live does or does not detect it, but im not sure if they will or not. if anyone could report back that has this set up that would be most helpful.

Stupid question:

If it's formatted to FAT32 then how can we get it to read ISO's since the max file size is 4 Gb?

Do we have to rip games directly from the disc?

There's nothing to detect if you're using a non-standard HDD. The HDDSS.BIN will not be present, therefore the drive won't be seen by the stock build.

You're right, it's a stupid question :)

You don't directly read ISOs from the HDD. They have to either be extracted or in GoD format.

Ah, this is something I'd wondered about. If I use some non-official HDD in my JTAG or rgh console, is not having this HDSS.BIN on the drive going to cause me some issues?
