Ok here's the deal I've looked all over the forums and can't find anything about my particular problem so here it is. ......

My friend helped me install the x3 on my 1.1 xbox about a week ago. I bought a new hard drive and installed a bunch of games. Everythings, working fine, until today. I was playing a game for a long time (3 hours) and I noticed it started fragging. It would blink red, green, then orange. The xbox works the same...still works great but I'm concerned with the flashing lights. Can some one give me some info on the possible problem?

Thanks :?

Can you please be a little more descriptive?

Does it continue to do this while you're playing?

Has anyone been into the X3 ConfigLive settings and changed anything?

Yes it does continue doing it while I'm playing.
Also, when I woke up I thought I'd turn it on to see if it was just hot. Then it will start up, turn off, twice then boot with the same issue. As far as the x3 configue live settings. I think I've changed a few little things. Sorry I can't tell you more, let me know.

Thanks for the post, it's helping

Can you reset the X3CL settings back to default (there's an option for this) and see what happens after?

ok......

here we go - this is vital information.

A 250GB HDD runs HOT.

A 1.1 Xbox runs HOT.

HOT + HOT = F***ing HOT.

Did you increase the fan speed at atl for this?

If not, you've probably toasted the board.

Try your stock HDD in it's place, or run with the cover off.

One of buddy's is helping me. We just cleaned up the solder points and we called my buddy who's a computer engineer. He confirmed what you said about the western digital running Hot. He said but there should be some burn points on the motherboard, which...there aren't. So I'm hoping it's the solder points we're putting it back together right now. If it boots up any suggestion on what I should increase the fan speed to?

I'd go with 40% for now and check after that.

You won't see burn points on the motherboard if a processor has heat damage.

are there any specific tests to verify if it's the mother board?

Just by standard process of elimination (which you've already tried).

Removed chip - same
Replaced HDD - same

Didn't anyone warn you that fitting a 250GB HDD would get pretty hot?

So I went back and re-soldered a ton and didn't give up. Finally my xbox turned on to the bios screen. I reflashed it and ......BINGO it worked. I increased the fan speed to 50%. It fragging again red, gree, orange fast but it works fine now. So what's the deal? Obviously it's not my motherboard. How do i rid myself of the frag? Did I get a bad mod chip?

Let me know....
thanks for all the help
