just fyi, my system is as follows:
xbox 1.0 modded with X3 and Xapt3r
Western Digital 250 GB hdd
Samsung modified 616T DVD drive

After i had installed my x3 w/ xapt3r, i had an issue with a frag occuring after some game play or long ftp transfers. recently, my thompson drive had broke, so i needed to replace it. While waiting for my new samsung, i had not experienced this frag once.

Yesterday, i installed the samsung dvd drive and it worked with no problems. However, today, i started to get frags every single time i tried to load anything from the hard drive. In evox, i will select an app/game, and i see the HDD led on teh x3 switch flicker on and then go off, hear the hdd spin up and then stop, and it will hang on the evolution x screen. When i go to restart the xbox, it begins a restart cycle and then frags after 3 restarts.

I am totally lost, and i am open to any help. I am going to go and resolder the lan led (as that led never has worked since i tried soldering). I see little need to resolder the HDD led though, that has been working perfectly.

Thanks to all in advance - any help is appreciated.

could this possibly just be a bad x3 chip?

edit - i dont think so, i remove the samsung, and the xbox works like normal

can this be power related? are my hdd and this dvd drive causing too big of a power drain? and how should i resolve this if so?

ok, problem is solved if my xbox's case is left open... something must be getting crushed, perhaps my ide cable (considering its my hard drive that seems to stop reading whenever i try to run something)

any suggestions?

It could be heat too, since it disappears when its open.

fans def plugged in and working - i have it set to 50%, plus i have a xbox external hdd cooler on the side

edit - it might also be the power splitter that connects to the hdd and dvd-rom, its getting pressed where it goes to the hdd - since the problem seems to revolve around the hdd crashing when loading, i might try to fix that too

well i need the power splitter to power the dvd drive, so what im going to do when i wake up is cut a piece of plastic out to fit the wiring in

ive got a wd 2500JB 250 gb hdd (7200 rpm)

i have installed a fan unit on the side of the xbox as said previously

at first i thought i fixed it when i found that my power/reset button wires were getting crushed, but no - now i get frags whenever i reboot the xbox (I can easily see these frags leading back to my hdd crashing)

let me know...
