I'll apologise right now, this has probably been done before, but after a few hours of searching i couldn't find an answer (let alone the 3 or 4 hours it took me to get to flashbios).

when i have switches 1 and 2 set to off (left) 3 and 4 right, and 5 off, i can get to the flashbios screen no problems. My understanding is that this is the backup bios, or bios number 2 ?

When i have switches 1 and 2 set to on, 3 and 4 off, 5 off, it just frags on me. This would be the main or default bios ?

if i set 1, 2, 3 and 4 to on and 5 off, it just loads normally into evox.

if i set them all to off, it frags.

if i set them all to on it loads into evox

if i hold cdrom and power i can get to the backup bios (loads into flashbios)

i guess my question is, to flash into the first bios slot (switches 1 and 2 [banks 1234]) do i load into any session of flashbios and then change the switches ?

if not, then how on earth do i do it.

Thanks, giririsss

i have this exact same problem.

i just installed an X3 onto my xbox v1.6 and successfully flashed the bios through the network (M8plus_16.bin). now i can't start the xbox with certain switch settings or else it will frag after turning on and off twice. i took giri's advice on setting the switch to on, on, on, on, off and now it works.

could anybody explain to me if this is normal or if i need to fix something (please no more soldering! :(). could somebody also explain what is actually going on? i just want to make sure i did everything correctly.

thank you so much!

That x3 guide is nice, if you can get into flashbios, and everything is working fine. But it doesn't really provide any helpful troubleshooting. I'm not saying it's not a good guide, it really is good, and was helpful for the process.

I just did what i guessed was right, that is, after getting into flashbios i changed the switches to what i wanted, and then flashed. That seemed to work fine, as it is all working now.

The white button trick of getting into the x3 config menu wouldn't work for me, because when i originally got the xbox moded, i got the place to install the software (was only an extra 5$). But they installed an X2 bios, so i couldn't get to the x3 config menu.

The easiest way to go about what you are trying to do is #1 obtain a copy of the current x3 bios file. Then take all the switches to the left or off possition. Now boot to the backup flash bios. This is normally done by pressing the power and eject buttons simultaniously and holding them for a bit until you see the blue screen. Once in flash your chip (I find http to be the easiest way). Once this is done reboot the box and you should be fine. If this still gives you problems remember the switch is optional try removing the external switch from the x3 itself as it removes confussion and potential problems. While in there you should also check and make sure the flashprotect option is not enabled on the x3 itself. Check the manual for how to determine this.
