Hey,

I installed an X3 on my 1.4 xbox, about a month ago, everything was working fine until today, I played a game for and hour or so then shut the xbox down, came back 2-3 hours later and when I turned it on I got no video but the blue HDD light and LAN lights where working the HDD led stayed on for 30 sec the turned off. I rebooted it a few times and then all of a sudden I got the bootup screen but when the "rocks your box" logo came up it froze on that. I tryed booting to the backup bios that came up on the screen but after doing that once I could not repeat it. Booting to the mod off mode if I hold down the power button the red X flashs then turns off. I pulled the mod out and tryed booting with the original HDD and I still get no video and the open close light is flashing green and orange. What should I do, retouch the pins?????

Thanks in advance,
G

What HDD did you have in there when it stopped working?

Have you tried reconnecting the video cable?

ok - in went a 200GB HDD.

What heat precautions did you apply to the Xbox. You do know that a very large HDD generates a large amount of heat!

My guess is that it may be heat damage.

Heat damage to what?? The HDD or the motherboard?? I had the standard fan running about 35%. When a frag happends should something come up on screen???

oooh 35%?
i deffinately suspect the heat damage theory now! that was way too low for that size hdd.

note: larger hard disks do not necessarily mean hotter hard disks

what makes a hard disk run hotter is it'sw speed not it's density

right behind you
ya

larger drives dont necessarily mean more heat
but then again
they usually do

and what do you mean

'running the stock fan at 35%'

how did you make it run at 35%

i run mine at around 75-80% with a 180 gig HDD (well, so X3 bios sais) it's pretty noisy but effective. i offer my opinions, take them as what they are, combine it with others and make your own educated decision. best of luck to you.

and to the other sh*t punchers (lol, from the last XBL ban post) i never said it was a cause for high temps, i said i suspect it, so if you don't like my OPINION and ADVICE trying to help a fellow XBOX modder, then go punch some sh*t.

Im gonna post my previous post in here.. i may get a better response.. lol

Im installing a X3 chip for a friend. This is my first time having a frag, so im a little lost of what to do. I installed the pin header, and the LPC rebuild. The d0 point, and the HDD, LAN. When I turn the xbox on. The chips lights up, the 3v and 5v led's light up. The control panel LED is red saying that the chip is disabled. Even tho I did a quick press on the power button. The xbox turns on and off 3 times, then flashes green and red. I know this is a frag. I resolderd every thing at least 5 times, and same results. Also nothing appears on the screen. If hold the power button, it boots normally into M$ dash. Mabey I didnt get a good soilder.. who knows... Ive seen the kind of frag with the contol panel blue. and then it frags, but not this kind of a frag. This is my 4th chip ive installed, and so far the 1st unsucessful. Can anyone tell me some posibitlites of why this is happening.

I did search before I posted this this, and I couldnt find what I was looking for.

Thanks a million

I'd make sure if you're not using this on a 1.6 Xbox, to insulate the 5v connection pin. It may be shorting out.

If it doesn't change anything, then the LPC soldering is where you need to concentrate.

Satin, Gloss or Matt?

am planning on doing a paint job soon, i have looked all around online for tutorials,
but they all seemed to be very basic and provide zero information,
i want a professional look after its sprayed,

so whats the best for this should my color have a matt finish, satin or gloss ?

and should i use a clear over coat ?

this is the color am looking at

Re: Satin, Gloss or Matt?

from all the xbox's Ive done, I used paint with the protective enamel in it. It only takes one or two coats and when it dries its shiny! also the enamel makes it way easier to dust off and it protects from scratches.
