FRAG problems

I have a v1.0 xbox. I used to have a xecuter 2.3 Lite+ solderless. I wanted to upgrade so that I didnt hvae to continuously open up the box to realign the chip after moving it between college and my home. I never had a problem w/ this chip besides the misalignment.

I ordered the X3 and tried to install via pin header. This is my first solder job. I got both blue lights to light up however it fragged when the chip was enabled. I resoldered the LPC points and D0 point. The LED solders were fine. I tried again and I had the same problem. I then removed the pin header completely and reinstalled the 2.3 Lite+. It would boot fine when the chip was disabled. It would frag just like the X3 did, when the chip was enabled.

I cannot seem to figure this one out for the life of me. I need help ASAP! Thanks alot!!!

Hello,

First, your d0 point is okay because xbox is trying to boot from lpc.

Second, do you have the correct switch setting on the external dip switch?

Third, check header pin w/multimeter and test for voltages. look for the following: pin 1: 0.2V approx, pin 2 & 12: ground(0.0V), Pin 6: 5.0V, all other pins should be around 3.3 V.

I hope this helps.

What should the correct dip settings be? I was looking for this earlier and I had no luck finding it!

Also, I ruined my pin header insert when removing it... where can I get another?

Thanks!

Hello,

First time dip setting should be: on/on/off/off (1/2/3/4) don't worry about 5th switch. this should get you to flash bios for flashing x3 bios.

Most electronics store should sell pin headers. i bought some at my local electronics store. they are really cheap. however, if you try to buy them from chip retailers, they will charge at least $1.00 for parts that only cost few cents.

Try www.willyselectronics.com.

Well, I'll be completely honest. I had ALL dip switches OFF. I feel like a f-in moron because I completely removed (and ruined in the process) the pin header insert when it was probably just the fricken dip switches!! I am rather annoyed right now, only because I spent 6 hours soldering and re-soldering every point on my xbox!! Where was the info about the dip switches? I didnt see it ANYWHERE(and yes i searched)! Oh well, I'll have to locate another pin header insert and try to re-install(again) tomorrow.

Another question.... why doesnt my 2.3 Lite + work dispite the problems w/ the X3? It should work if the problem w/ the X3 was the switches and not other hardware?

Thanks!

For guide/trouble shooting X3: http://home.comcast.net/~x3guide/

You must have damaged/burned some of the lpc pads while soldering/desoldering process. it is very important to use low wattage pen type soldering iron with replaceable soldering tip (I use 15 watt). find the smallest tip you can find. also buy some fiberglass pen to clean the lpc pads and flux.

better luck next time.[/i]

If the LPC ports or the D0 trace were ruined, would I be able to uninstall the modchip completely and run the xbox stock? Thanks again!

I tested it w/ NO modchip and it worked fine... HMMMM... any ideas at this point? Only when I try to run the 2.3 enabled do I have problems. Also, I can't run the x3 disabled because when I try to push the power button for a long time, it just goes to the FRAG. Thanks!

I guess what I'm getting at is:

Is my xbox ruined completely? Since it does boot to the MS dash this leads me to believe that its not. What could hte problem be? I have been told that the D0 trace is messed up but that, at the same time, it can't be since its trying to boot from the LPC port. HMMM... how confusing.

Was my problem the dip switch settings or no? Why would it boot to MS dash with no chip installed but FRAG when the chip is installed and enabled?

Also, that willys site for the pin headers includes no pin headers. Any other ideas of where to get pin headers for the Xbox? Thanks ALOT!

I am getting VERY frustrated and would like a solution in the near future.

apparently if the right side of the d0 trace is messed up then the m$ dash will work but no other. but if the left is gone..... then ur xbox is teh sad.

its something xcronus talks about often and people apparently fix it every time. in other words try desoldering the d0 and resoldering it with less solder. if that doesnt work then repair the d0

Ok....sh*t if forgot the orientation......ok the shorter side of the d0 trace is what i refer to as the right side......longer side that leads to the big box that retards f**k with and conseqently f**k their xboxs is the left side
