Fragging after supposedly succesful flash

Hi everyone,

I've read all the FAQ's, etc., but I still require help. I recently ordered a premod from modchipman with the Xecuter 3 of course. I've tried flashing the X3 bios to both banks 1234 and 5678. The flash itself appears to be successful, but after I try to start it with the X3 bios in either bank, it frags. Does this indicate a corrupt file, or perhaps bad media? What else could be the cause? If I hold the power button down for longer, it will of course boot to the normal MS dash. Secondly, where exactly is the Flashbios located? I want to know so I don't accidentally overwrite it.

I suspect you flashed wrong bios version. Can you tell us exactly what xbox version, bios name (type it out) and switch positions and we will try to get you going.

The X3 bios version is 3029. The flashbios version is 3.03. Switch positions for bank 1234 are on on off off off, and for bank 5678 I used off on off off off. As for the Xbox version I believe it's 1.6 but I'll ask modchipman to make sure.

yeah, you need to make sure it's v1.6 and not 1.6b or vis versa. V1.6 uses flashbios 3.0.1 and v1.6b uses 3.0.3 to flash properly. Exactly what is the name of X3 3029 did you flashed? X3 3029 v16plus.bin or X3 3029.bin?

Then I guess it's 1.6b because modchipman probably knows what he's doing. I'll wait for an answer to my PM I sent him though. The name of the file was X3 3029.bin.

that's your problem there. You need to flash with X3 3029 v16plus.bin (for versions 1.6 and 1.6b) and not with X3 3029.bin (for versions 1.0-1.5)

Exact same problem here.. have 1.6b with x3.. flashed with latest bios from xbins ..didnt use the v26 file... stupid me... sucessfull flash.. now getting FRAG... tried to set dip switch to just 1. flashed success via http (with wrong bios).. so now it frags when i set switch 1 , frags when i set 1 and 2 (for 1mb)... i cant even get http to come up to reflash with the correct one... i tried to do CPR by holding down both power and cd open button.. light comes on purple.. the cd light comes on green then turns to solid yellow... i tried pressing "A" to enable flash via http to no avail... looks liek i messed up great time by flashing with the wrong bios.. please help how can i reflash it...

if you have X3CE, try putting your switches to off on off off off and see if you get flashbios 3.0.3. If not, I think you may have f*cked it. Only choice now is to get the retailer to reflash flashbios again for you or hotswap it if you know someone with a modded xbox.
